When Mammootty opened up on his wife Sulfath Kutty being ‘reluctant’ about him becoming an actor

As an ardent fan of the legendary Malayalam actor Mammootty, I find his journey from a reluctant actor to a household name nothing short of inspiring. His resilience and passion for acting, which he nurtured since his childhood, is truly commendable. It’s fascinating to learn about his wife Sulfath Kutty‘s initial hesitation but her eventual support that has been the cornerstone of his success for four decades.


In a fascinating twist, the esteemed Indian film actor Mammootty has graced screens not just in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi movies, but is also deeply cherished as a devoted family man. While he’s often recognized for acknowledging his partner Sulfath Kutty as a key factor in his success, you might be surprised to learn that at one point, she was somewhat hesitant about Mammootty embarking on an acting career. In a vintage interview, the Bramayugam actor disclosed that initially, his wife held reservations about him pursuing acting, but eventually agreed, largely due to her deep affection for him.

During an interview with Khalid Al Ameri on his YouTube channel, Mammootty shared that initially, she was hesitant, but her natural affection towards him eventually led her to back his aspirations. He mentioned that he’s been part of the film industry for the past 42 years, and throughout this journey, she has remained by his side.

In that same interview, Mammootty mentioned that it was around his childhood years when his love for acting first ignited. In other words, he expressed a strong desire to become an actor at the age of 7 or 8. Even though he nurtured this passion for law and practiced as a lawyer, his longing to act eventually resurfaced. Following his marriage in 1979, Mammootty made the move into films, taking on leading roles.

Moving forward, I am eagerly anticipating my role in Bazooka, directed by Deeno Dennis. This exciting project boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Gayathiri Iyer, Bhama Arun, and Gautham Menon.

On August 15th, a long-awaited sneak peek of the film Bazooka was revealed, featuring the legendary actor Mammootty and Gautham Vasudev Menon together.

Beyond this, it’s whispered that Mammootty might star in an intriguing mystery drama led by Gautham Menon. According to a source, the film may see Mammootty portray a private detective character, reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes. Furthermore, there are whispers about a high-budget production spearheaded by Mahesh Narayanan, who gained fame with Malik, that could potentially bring together Fahadh Faasil and Suresh Gopi alongside Mammootty. An announcement on this project is still pending.
