At the tender age of nine, Koma penned his initial melody, citing Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen as his formative musical inspirations. Subsequently, he pursued his education at Seaford High School.
Career
Back in June 2011, I was fortunate enough to sign a record deal with Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records. This happened after he was captivated by my acoustic version of the song “She”. Fast forward nearly a year, in May 2012, I released my debut EP titled Parachute.
For each of the four tracks, he assumed the responsibilities of a writer, producer, and co-producer, collaborating with Twice as Nice, Alex da Kid, Sam Watters, Louis Biancaniello, and Ari Levine on their creation.
In the year 2012, Koma served as the main singer for “End of Pretend” by Black Cards and collaborated with Ron Aniello to create a remix of Bruce Springsteen’s song “Rocky Ground”. This remixed version was featured on Springsteen’s album titled Wrecking Ball.
In 2012, Matthew Koma embarked on the Sorry for Party Rocking Tour alongside LMFAO, Far East Movement. After that, he teamed up with Owl City for their tour. The next year saw him joining Ellie Goulding’s European tour with Charli XCX, and he also worked together with DJ Hardwell on the song “Dare You.”
Back in March 2014, I had the incredible opportunity to be part of Showtek’s track “Cannonball (Earthquake)”. That wasn’t all! I joined forces with RAC for their debut album, lending my voice to the track “Cheap Sunglasses”. And let me tell you, it didn’t stop there. I was also featured on Audien’s single “Serotonin”. What a ride it has been!
On Afrojack’s 2014 album “Forget the World”, two songs, namely “Keep Our Love Burning” and “Radiate”, were penned and vocalized by Koma.
In January 2015, Matthew Koma was featured in Kia Motor’s online series titled “Rediscovered”. During this series, he sang a cover version of the classic song “The Tracks of My Tears” by The Miracles.
While we were recording, Smokey Robinson unexpectedly dropped by at the studio. In September 2015, Koma collaborated with The Knocks for their song “I Wish (My Taylor Swift)”, which later appeared on their album 55, released in 2016.
In the year 2016, he teamed up with Britney Spears for her album Glory, helping to develop the song “Swimming in the Stars.” This track was later released to the public in 2020. The following year, Koma created numerous tracks for Shania Twain’s fifth studio album Now, among them the hit lead single “Life’s About to Get Good”. Additionally, he featured on the 2017 Downes Braide Association album Skyscraper Souls.
Back in 2018, I dropped “On the 5” – a fresh tune and video – as part of my Winnetka Bowling League project, under the RCA Records label. Fast forward to August 2020, I teamed up with Keith Urban for his single “Change Your Mind”, lending a hand in its writing and production.
Personal Life
On May 9th, 2019, Matthew Koma popped the question to Hilary Duff following their relationship, which they’d been in for some time.
