‘Producer brought a script to me but I was not convinced’: Director Ajay Gnanamuthu about Chiyaan Vikram’s Cobra failing

As a seasoned lifestyle expert with decades of experience in the entertainment industry, I have come to appreciate the complexities and nuances that underpin the creation of a successful movie. The case of Director Ajay Gnanamuthu‘s film, Cobra, serves as an illuminating example of the trials and tribulations that often accompany the artistic process.

As a die-hard fan of Director Ajay Gnanamuthu, I’ve been eagerly following his career, especially after the captivating films Demonte Colony and Cobra. In an exciting interview with SS Music, the mastermind himself shed light on the intriguing journey of his latest venture, Vikram starrer, which unfortunately didn’t meet our expectations. Delving deep into the making of the film, he shared insights about the initial challenges faced during pre-production, offering a unique glimpse into the creative process that often lies hidden behind the silver screen.

The director shared that he had initially presented a script to producers, but it was rejected. Later, he collaborated with another writer on a different script, only for it to be declined as well. Ultimately, a script was offered by the producer, but the director remained unconvinced.

The director stated that they found it unappealing as they believed the fundamental idea or foundation of the work contained errors and issues. He suggested that by modifying all other aspects, the original script could be transformed into a full-fledged screenplay, but the core concept or essence was not alterable.

Ajay admitted his reservations regarding the script provided by the producer, as it had already taken the team eight months to work on it. With just four months left before filming began, he found himself in a bind.

In the process, the director harbored some reservations regarding the script, yet the producer remained determined. He commented, “Although my team and I faced concerns about it, most others seemed to appreciate the concept. It’s possible that we may have been mistaken, so we proceeded to write the screenplay.”

Ajay realized that using another person’s single idea to create a screenplay led to an expensive blunder in the end. He acknowledged that he should have seen this and decided not to make the film.
