2XKO's Launch On Mobile: Will Riot Release Their Upcoming 2v2 Fighting Game On The Platform?

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen the evolution of gaming from pixelated monochrome to high-definition masterpieces. With League of Legends being one of my go-to titles for years, I was thrilled when Riot Games announced their next big project: 2XKO, or Project L as it was then known. The prospect of a team-based combat game with tag-team elements set in the expansive LoL universe had me hooked since day one.

2XKO, previously called Project L, is an upcoming fight game from the creative minds at Riot Games that was initially unveiled in 2019. For both the developers and numerous League of Legends enthusiasts, this game signifies the next stage in the evolution of games set within the sprawling universe of LoL.

In the game 2XKO, you and a teammate engage in a thrilling 2v2 combat format, where you can take turns tagging in and out. This allows you and a friend to face off against another duo. The game boasts a distinctive art style and controls that Riot Games refers to as being simple to grasp but offering depth for skilled players to master.

2XKO, initially planned as a free-to-play game for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, may also make its way to mobile devices. Let’s delve into the details about its potential launch on handheld platforms.

Everything We Know About 2XKO’s Potential Release On Mobile

2XKO's Launch On Mobile: Will Riot Release Their Upcoming 2v2 Fighting Game On The Platform?

Currently, Riot Games hasn’t shared any plans to make the game 2XKO available on mobile platforms. It seems they are focusing on launching it exclusively on PC and popular consoles. Given their commitment to creating highly optimized and polished games, it appears that mobile devices such as Android and iOS are currently not part of their release strategy, limiting availability to current and future console generations instead.

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but feel a pang of concern when it comes to the potential mobile availability of my favorite game, 2XKO, after Riot Games made some significant changes early in 2024. They announced layoffs that resulted in a reduction of their global team by approximately 11%. This reduction, which equates to around 530 roles being eliminated, has me worried about the future of this highly anticipated release on handheld devices.

Even if things seem tough right now, remember that Riot Games has a track record of creating engaging games for mobile devices like Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics. So, there’s always a chance we might get an exciting new game soon!

Titles similar to 2XKO in the combat genre, like Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice 2, share comparable gameplay aspects. Consequently, it’s plausible that if 2XKO is introduced on mobile devices, it would follow a free-to-play model, as it will be on other platforms as well.

2XKO’s official launch date is yet to be announced as of now. However, there are strong rumors pointing towards a release in the summer of 2025. Riot has been actively conducting open playtests, with the first alpha test initiated as early as August this year in certain regions.
