Her rich experience portraying strong, dynamic characters from Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Neytiri in Avatar makes her the perfect choice for Aunt Olga.
Zoe Saldaña has joined the cast of Elio.
In 2025, a fresh animated film titled “Elio” from Pixar is set to hit theaters. On August 9, 2024, during D23, it was officially announced that Zoe Saldana has been added to the cast and will lend her voice to Aunt Olga in the movie.
Zendaya expressed at D23, as reported by Variety, that she deeply resonated with the character and desired an on-screen portrayal of a genuine family dynamic. The bond between our characters in the film seemed genuinely authentic to her.
I’m recognized for bringing Gamora to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Neytiri in James Cameron’s Avatar saga, and Nyota Uhura in the latest Star Trek flicks. My cinematic journey also encompasses Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), The Losers (2010), Out of the Furnace (2013), and Missing Link (2019), among others.
What is Pixar’s Elio movie about?
In this unique sci-fi film, we meet Elio, a dreamer from Earth who unexpectedly gets transported to the Communiverse, an intergalactic assembly featuring representatives from various galaxies. Due to a misunderstanding, he’s mistaken for our planet’s ambassador to the cosmos and is thrust into a world that demands more than he can handle. As Elio navigates strange relationships with alien beings, overcomes challenging ordeals, and searches for his true identity, he must adapt, grow, and find his place in the universe.
Elio is overseen by directors Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, and Adrian Molina. The movie is produced by Mary Alice Drumm.
In addition to Yonas Kibreab portraying Elio, America Ferrera takes on the role of Elio’s mother named Olga, Jameela Jamil is assigned as Ambassador Questa, while Brad Garrett steps into the shoes of Ambassador Grigon.
Initially planned for a U.S. theater release on March 1, 2024, the movie titled Elio encountered a delay due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that occurred in October 2023.
The movie will now open in the United States on June 13, 2025.
