The Price of Honor: Who Is Yaser Said & Where Is He Now?

As a gamer with a keen interest in crime documentaries, I found myself utterly captivated by the heart-wrenching tale of Amina and Sarah Said, two innocent girls who fell victim to their own father’s twisted sense of honor. The Price of Honor was a chilling reminder of the harsh reality that exists even within our modern societies.

On January 1st, 2008, the lifeless bodies of Sarah and Amina Said were found in a hotel parking lot in Irving, Texas. Police investigations suggested that their bodies were discovered in the back of a taxi driven by their father. Following this grim discovery, authorities launched an investigation, suspecting Yaser Said as the potential perpetrator of the murders. The documentary “The Price of Honor” delves deeply into this case and sheds light on why a father could commit such a heinous act against his own children.

As a gamer speaking in my own words, I remember hearing about the tragic tale of Sarah and Amina Said from ABC News. They had lived in constant fear of their father, who they believed would eventually take their lives. In an email to her history teacher, Amina described how their father made their life a living nightmare. Fearing for their safety, they along with their mother and partners moved from Texas to Oklahoma in December 2007. However, on New Year’s Eve, they returned home. The following day, their bodies were found in the parking lot of a hotel in Texas. A mysterious person contacted the authorities to report the discovery. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Amina had been shot twice, while Sarah suffered nine gunshot wounds.

In summary, it took authorities 12 years to apprehend Yaser Said for the murders of his daughters. During the trial, he claimed innocence and stated that he fled after feeling threatened, with CBS News reporting him as saying, “I did not expect anyone would harm them.” His ex-wife also testified against him, labeling him abusive and a “devil.” After considering various arguments, the jury deliberated for three hours before finding Said guilty. Consequently, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole. At present, Yaser Said is serving his sentence in a Texas prison located in Beeville.

The Price of Honor: Where is Amina & Sarah Said’s killer Yaser Said now?

Based on information from the Texas Department of Corrections, Yaser Said is presently detained at the William G. McConnell Unit in Beeville, Texas. During the trial, it was revealed that Said is accused of murdering his daughters. The court also listened to the 911 call made by Sarah Said during the shooting, in which she cried for help and said, “Help. I’m dying. Oh my God. Stop it.” In a letter to the judge during the trial, Yaser Said acknowledged being upset with his children due to their dating habits. However, he maintained his innocence regarding the murder of his daughters, as reported by CBS News.

Initially, during the trial’s opening remarks, the prosecution asserted that Yaser Said’s former wife and children chose to vacate the house following threats from Said indicating he would kill Amina. Contrarily, Said’s ex-wife testified, labeling him as “evil.” She detailed that during their relationship, Said was abusive, prompting her to depart multiple times, as reported by ABC News.

During the course of the trial, it was disclosed that investigators had trailed Yaser Said, yet somehow he eluded them. As reported by FOX4 News in August 2020, they eventually apprehended him at a house rented by the Said family members. The police stated that Said surrendered upon their entry into the house and termed the murders as “honor killings.” To clarify, honor killings are instances where a woman is slain by a relative to preserve the family’s reputation or honor.

In the meantime, the defense argued that investigators jumped to conclusions about Yaser Said too swiftly and pointed out that the proof wasn’t robust enough for a conviction. Nevertheless, the jury still decided he was guilty and sentenced him to life in prison.

The Price of Honor is available to stream on Prime Video and Apple TV+.
