Did House of the Dragon confirm the Prince Who Was Promised theory?

As a die-hard Game of Thrones fan who’s spent countless hours debating theories with fellow fans over cups of hot wine and warm meat pies, I must say that House of the Dragon has finally given us a clue about the long-debated Prince Who Was Promised prophecy. It was always a toss-up between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen, but it seemed like Jon had the upper hand for the longest time.

Fans of “Game of Thrones” have frequently speculated about the identity of the Prince Prophesied, switching between characters. However, it appears that “House of the Dragon” has recently clarified who this prophecy was actually referring to.

In George R.R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones,” there was a strong belief that either Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen fulfilled the prophecy known as the Prince Who Was Promised. Initially, most assumed it would be Jon, but as the story progressed, fans began to ponder if it might instead be Dany in the final act.

Dany had several compelling factors that stood out. Firstly, she miraculously survived a fire that hatched her dragon eggs without any burns, setting her apart from others. Secondly, she was the sole individual who forged genuine bonds with three dragons, although she mounted only one of them. Lastly, as she journeyed towards Westeros to seize the Iron Throne, she managed to bring people together and even orchestrated a feat that allowed her dragons to cross The Wall.

Daemon’s visions in House of the Dragon seem to confirm the theory

In the final episode of Season 2 for “House of the Dragon”, Daemon experienced a prophetic vision which delved into Aegon’s dream. This vision showcased the White Walkers and introduced us to Daenerys along with her trio of dragon offspring.

It appears that Daemon’s visions suggested unequivocally that Daenerys was indeed the prophesied Prince, but as per Forbes, showrunner Ryan Condal clarifies this vision didn’t serve to validate the theory in any way. Instead, it seemed to be a link through the dragons.

In essence, the prophecy passed down through generations in the Targaryen dynasty foretells a struggle against the frozen peril beyond the Wall. It might very well be Daenerys who fulfills this role, but there remains an intriguing possibility that Jon Snow is indeed the Prince Prophesied.

“What makes ‘House of the Dragon’ stand out is its use of implied elements, which allow for individual interpretations. This flexibility in meaning adds an element of intrigue to the narrative. Not everything is fixed or definite, as Helaena puts it, “it’s all a story.” Each character has their role to play, and eventually, Daenerys will have hers – this vision centers around that idea.”
