Splitgate 2 gameplay reveal showcases factions and abilities to suit different play styles

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that the Splitgate 2 reveal has sent shivers of excitement down my gaming spine! The original Splitgate was a breath of fresh air in the FPS genre, and the prospect of an even more polished sequel has me eagerly awaiting its release.

As a dedicated gamer, I was disheartened when the creators of Splitgate decided to part ways with their groundbreaking, entertaining FPS title. But luckily, they’ve been secretly working on a sequel, aiming to reintroduce this incredible blend of Halo and Portal in an even more powerful form. The announcement for Splitgate 2 happened just last month, and since then, there had been radio silence from the dev team. That changed today when they astonishingly dropped a first-look trailer, giving us a sneak peek at the gameplay and what we can anticipate from the sequel.

In the preview for Splitgate 3, we catch glimpses of three distinct factions: Aeroes, Meridian, and Sabrask. Each comes with unique abilities. The Aeroes are characterized by swiftness, agility, and an expertise in portals. Top player IitzTimmy highlights the advantages of using this faction, stating that “Aeros is all about high actions per minute (APM), quick movement, you’re constantly running around, teleporting behind opponents, firing at them, killing them, then returning to your portal, resetting, and recharging with a stim.” MacieJay also mentions that the Aeroes primarily serve as the ‘entry fragger role’, catering to players who excel in mechanical skills.

Meridian is a backup group that works well with healers and scouts. Aspen described this faction by saying they possess abilities to help both yourself and your allies stay alive. She explained that these abilities allow you to support your teammates, keep them in good shape, and even get kills simultaneously.

Ultimately, Sabrask stands out as a favorable choice for both defensive players and those who prefer aggressive playstyles. Scump commented about this defensive faction, stating “I think Sabrask allows for more flexibility without relying heavily on portals.” Enable offered his perspective, saying “Sabrask has fewer movement advantages compared to the other two factions, but it offers a wide range of abilities and weapons, making it highly versatile.” He also highlighted the smart wall, which seems poised to significantly impact gameplay in modes where teams need to control points or specific areas on the map. “The smart wall acts like a pop-up shield that blocks incoming enemy fire based on its placement, but you can still shoot through it,” he explained. “If you’re being attacked from behind, you can move to the opposite side of the smart wall for protection. When in power positions on the map, the smart wall becomes essential.”

On August 14th, starting at 12 pm Pacific Time/3 pm Eastern Time, the creators of Splitgate 2 plan to conduct a live broadcast during which they’ll participate in matches and demonstrate all the exciting features coming up in the game.
