'Good films didn't come my way': When Allu Arjun opened up about not getting movies because he 'didn't look great'

As a dedicated follower of Allu Arjun‘s career, I can’t help but admire his resilience and determination. His journey from struggling to get work after his debut to becoming one of the most sought-after actors in Tollywood is truly inspiring. It’s fascinating to learn that even someone with a lineage as illustrious as Allu Arjun faced rejection, yet he turned it into an opportunity to prove his worth.

Allu Arjun consistently delivers outstanding acting performances in films such as Pushpa: The Rise, Sarrainodu, Arya, and more, demonstrating his talent as an actor. Originally, he faced challenges breaking into the film industry despite being from a family known for its prominent figures like Allu Ramalingaiah and his uncle Chiranjeevi. In the early days of his career, Allu Arjun had to work hard to establish himself.

Yes, in a candid conversation at a Hyderabad event, the Pushpa actor Allu Arjun shared that his career didn’t take off significantly until he starred in the 2004 romantic drama, Arya. He explained that despite Gangotri being a hit, he wasn’t considered attractive enough to land good roles, leading him to become even less prominent than before. In other words, after Gangotri’s success, he found himself moving from no recognition to virtually nonexistent in the industry.

Additionally, the actor mentioned that a significant shift occurred in his career after watching the movie “Dil” starring Nithiin with a friend. It was during this viewing that director Sukumar offered Allu Arjun the role in the film “Arya”.

Reflecting on that memorable event, I found myself drawn to Sukumar’s directorial debut based on his compelling script. Even Chiranjeevi was captivated by it, and as a testament to our success, he presented me with an award when our film surpassed 125 days in theaters, overcoming all obstacles together.

The actor, who recently marked 20 years since a film’s release, commended the filmmaker and stated, “One person has indelibly shaped my life and left the greatest impact – from Arya to Pushpa. That person is Sukumar. Regardless of whether I’ve had successes or setbacks, he was instrumental in guiding me towards a career as an actor.”

In terms of work, Allu Arjun is getting ready for the launch of his highly anticipated cross-regional movie, titled Pushpa 2: The Rule. This upcoming action-drama is a follow-up to the 2021 Sukumar-directed film, Pushpa: The Rise.

In the upcoming movie, Allu Arjun will once again take on the character of Pushpa Raj, joining forces with Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil. This action-packed film centers around a sandalwood smuggler who aspires to climb the ranks within his organization, encountering numerous adversaries in the process.

The sequel to “Pushpa” will continue the story directly from where the first movie ended, focusing on the persistent struggle between Pushpa Raj and SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat. Originally scheduled for a release on August 15, the new release date for “Pushpa 2” is now set for December 6, 2024.
