House of the Dragon changed the Silver Denys story considerably

As a seasoned gamer and avid reader with a soft spot for Game of Thrones prequels, I must say, watching House of the Dragon unfold its unique twists is like unwrapping a dragon egg on my birthday – exciting, unpredictable, and slightly nerve-wracking.

It’s no longer surprising to see how the plotlines in ‘House of the Dragon’ deviate from those in ‘Fire & Blood’. Some changes are made for logical reasons, while others serve to introduce exciting new twists.

In the most recent update, we’re focusing on a character named Silver Denys. If you haven’t had a chance to read the book yet, you might not be aware of this character or notice the alteration made to him in the story.

Who is Silver Denys in Fire & Blood?

In the book, Silver Denys is said to be an illegitimate member of House Targaryen. He maintains that he descends from Maegor the Cruel’s line, though this claim is often questioned. Interestingly, it is believed that Maegor was incapable of fathering his own children. Nevertheless, Silver Denys doesn’t shy away from discussing his lineage, much like Ulf who openly states that he is the son of Baelon.

In the book, Denys makes an effort to mount a dragon, yet he’s unsuccessful. This isn’t like how it plays out on the show. Instead, Denys has his own unique storyline in the novel, and many characters trying to ride dragons have their individual plots as well.

In the series, there’s been a significant shift in the tradition of Sowing Seeds. Characters born outside of Targaryen legitimacy embark on quests to domesticate their own dragons instead. Some even try to subdue wild dragons. For instance, Denys sets out to tame Sheepstealer, but his fate mirrors that of Ser Steffan from the series “House of the Dragon,” sadly meeting an untimely end.

What happened to Silver Denys in House of the Dragon?

In the television series, there’s a brief appearance of a character named Silver Denys at Dragonstone. However, it’s mostly through Robert Rhodes’s social media posts that we can confirm this is indeed Silver Denys being portrayed by him.

I must admit, even though the shift in the series didn’t significantly alter the main plot, I found myself utterly captivated by the turn of events. Instead of Denys trying his luck with Sheepstealer, we got to witness Vermithor laying waste to countless riders, a sight that was nothing short of breathtaking!
