As a devoted Disney fan, I must admit that this year has been nothing short of remarkable for Walt Disney Studios at the box office! Marvel’s projects have truly rebounded to shatter previous records, following some financial setbacks in recent times. Despite having four of the five biggest flops in 2023, according to Deadline’s calculations, Disney has managed an impressive comeback with a string of overperforming successes this year. It’s been an exhilarating rollercoaster ride!
Disney’s 2024 global box office hits $3 billion benchmark
As I’m typing this, it’s been confirmed that Disney’s total earnings from their movies in 2024 have surpassed the $3 billion milestone at the global box office.
As a long-time fan of comic book movies, I must admit that this year has been absolutely fantastic for me at the box office. Deadpool and Wolverine have always been two of my favorite characters, so seeing their latest films do so well is a dream come true. Having grown up reading their stories, it’s incredible to see them brought to life on the big screen in such a way that stays true to their personalities and backstories.
Currently, Inside Out 2 has earned approximately $1,555.1 million globally, making up nearly half of Disney’s total box office earnings for the year so far. Remarkably, even in its eighth week, the film’s overseas revenue drop was only 28%.
Disney’s 2024 box office dominance to continue with Moana 2 and others
Besides the previously mentioned movies, there are several upcoming films in 2024 that Disney has planned, which are likely to further boost the massive box office earnings they’ve already amassed this year. Notably, their 2024 lineup features sequels from well-known franchises like Moana 2, Alien: Romulus, and Mufasa: The Lion King.
In addition, it’s anticipated that the combined earnings of Deadpool & Wolverine will surpass current totals as its cinema run winds down. It has already claimed the title of highest-grossing R-rated film domestically and is expected to significantly boost Disney’s overall box office revenue in 2024.
