Overwatch 2 players wonder why these quality-of-life changes aren’t in the game

As a battle-hardened gamer who’s been around the block more times than I care to remember, it’s disheartening to see Overwatch 2 stumbling at the starting line when it comes to quality-of-life improvements. I’ve seen games half its age boast features that should be standard in a game like this.

Overwatch 2 boasts a long history in the live service gaming world, building upon its predecessor. However, despite this extensive experience, it lags behind certain competitors in terms of user-friendly features, indicating areas for potential improvement.

User AvianOW voiced their perplexity on the Overwatch 2 subreddit about certain quality-of-life improvements they don’t comprehend as to why they haven’t been implemented yet, with the following suggestions:

  • “Being able to filter career profile stats into roles
  • Practice Range bots replaceable with heroes
  • Practice Function key to open up the shooting range settings to get infinite ammo for instance
  • Being able to select 3-5 heroes to display as your preferred to play when hovering over your name in party menu during matches
  • Rank badges while playing comp
  • Being able to select main menu backgrounds/music in game”

Other users jumped into the comments section, with u/Mjclay highlighting a conspicuous modification needed: making it effortless to access details about each character’s stats (damage, healing, etc.). It seems surprising that such basic information isn’t readily accessible without having to search through patch notes or content created by other players, like text guides or YouTube tutorials.

It was pointed out by TheCocoBean that it’s not effective to practice against bots because they have lower health points compared to most playable characters. Consequently, you can’t accurately gauge the speed at which kills occur in real matches using them.

A user named u/Xenobrina proposed an idea for a game feature that I’ve never encountered before, but it appears so intuitive. It seems this feature might be present in games, but I’ve somehow missed it, and it’s not the norm in competitive shooters. The suggested feature is about displaying the “Win percentage of maps and related statistics.” If implemented, this would help me identify which maps I find challenging, the heroes I typically choose on those maps, and possibly how long I usually spend capturing specific objectives on average.

As a longtime Overwatch fan who has played since its release, I can confidently say that Season 12 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting updates yet. With the arrival of the new Hero, Luna, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation building within me. Having followed the game closely for years and witnessing the evolution of its roster, I know that each new addition brings fresh strategies and playstyles to the table.
