“Worst thing to happen” The Finals fans agree huge Season 3 nerfs have ruined the game

As a seasoned player of The Finals, I must say that this Season 3 has been a rollercoaster ride of disappointment and frustration for me. I remember the excitement when the game was first released and how it quickly became my go-to title. But, alas, what was once a thrilling experience has now turned into a monotonous grind.

The game known as “The Finals” was launched last December, and there was a tremendous anticipation for its debut due to its innovative game-show style paired with impressive destruction physics. While seasons 1 and 2 were generally enjoyable from start to finish, a significant portion of the “The Finals” community feels that Season 3 has been detrimental to the game, largely due to damaging changes or nerfs.

In The Finals Season 3, the main issue arose when Terminal Attack replaced Cashout as a ranked mode. Initially, this switch was the most significant criticism, but what truly pushed many fans over the edge was the current gameplay meta, with an overwhelming number of players choosing Light in matches, leading to a dominance that has grown tiresome for some.

The Finals fans agree Season 3 is the worst season yet

Over on the r/Finals subreddit, I came across a post titled ‘Worst Season Yet’ by user Many-Adventurous-394. This post is about Season 3 and they feel quite strongly that the current light meta (metagame) is the most disappointing thing to happen to this game. In their opinion, it’s ruining the experience.

The original post argues, “It’s not so frustrating if they didn’t adjust medium and heavy units. If you’re going to make lights so powerful, why are you weakening the other two classes instead? Just leave them as they were. It feels like I have to use lights to enjoy the game or spend the entire match battling insignificant enemies.”

Among the responses, several users share the opinion that this season is particularly poor, often referring to it as “the worst one yet.” One user attributes this to questionable balance changes (nerfs and buffs), as well as the prevalence of ‘Light spam’ in the current meta. Another user echoes this sentiment, stating they are happy for those who appreciate the light aspect, but have themselves grown tired of playing due to it.

Frequent responses mirror the opinion that it’s frustrating when multiple games share similarities due to an abundance of lights in the lobby. Players have advocated for reducing the power of Lights (nerfs) as a means to adjust the game’s strategy, but some fans counter this by suggesting significant boosts to Medium and Heavy units to create a more level playing field.

While the Light meta is causing concern among gamers about Season 3, there are other aspects that fans feel are problematic. For instance, many players are dissatisfied with Terminal Attack serving as the mode for Ranked play. It appears that there is a general consensus within the community that Cashout should make a comeback to Ranked in Season 4, as it was considered “the essence” or “core” of The Finals.

In contrast to Terminal Attack, numerous supporters have expressed disappointment about the scarcity of community gatherings and novel game options. During Season 2, we enjoyed an Easter event alongside the launch of Terminal Attack, as well as a multitude of community activities offering prizes. However, since then, such events seem to be missing.

Regrettably, we’ve only had one community event so far in Season 3, and the updates have been rather minimal. This situation is primarily due to a significant number of our team members taking well-deserved vacations throughout July.

Looking forward to the release of Season 4 after summer, we hope it’ll resemble the quality of Seasons 1 and 2 once again. Cashout is expected to make a comeback in Ranked mode, setting things off on a positive note. It will be intriguing to discover the fresh map and theme that will follow Japan’s lead.
