Evil Dead Animated Series in the Works With Bruce Campbell

As a lifelong fan of the Evil Dead franchise, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia upon hearing Bruce Campbell‘s announcement about the upcoming animated series. Having grown up watching Ash Williams battle the forces of darkness, it feels like coming home to learn that our chainsaw-wielding hero is set to return once more, this time in animated form.

As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share that Bruce Campbell himself has announced the development of an animated “Evil Dead” series! Guess who’s coming back? None other than Ash Williams, voiced by none other than our beloved Bruce Campbell. Can’t wait for this spooky-yet-entertaining journey!

Campbell revealed the news to Entertainment Weekly while promoting his Peacock series Hysteria!

Campbell shared with Entertainment Weekly that they’re working on an animated adaptation, similar to a TV series. He’s excited to take on the role of Ash and use his voice throughout the project, as it has aged less than he has.

In 2015, Campbell last portrayed Ash in a live-action setting when Ash vs. Evil Dead was terminated after three seasons. Since then, he’s lent his voice to the character in Evil Dead: The Game, but for all intents and purposes, he has stepped away from live-action Ash. An animated series provides a more convenient avenue for him to reprise the role.

Campbell stated, “We’re no longer confined within the cabin, Sam [Raimi] doesn’t need to direct, I don’t need to play Ash anymore. The key is to keep the popular aspects, such as ordinary individuals facing a cruel entity, and those who lack the ability to defeat it.”

Evil Dead rises again and again

Although Ash won’t be present, a live-action Evil Dead film is definitely being planned. Two separate Evil Dead movies are under development at the moment. One is being directed by Sébastien Vaniček, known for his work on Infested, the spider thriller. The other is being helmed by Francis Galluppi, who recently made his directorial debut with Yuma County’s remarkable film, The Last Stop.

In the previous year, we witnessed the release of Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise, marking a decade since the initial Evil Dead film. The story revolves around three siblings who stumble upon an ancient record, which unleashes bloodthirsty demons in a Los Angeles apartment building. As they fight for survival against these horrifying creatures, they are confronted with the most terrifying version of family conceivable. In this movie, Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland take on the leading roles.

In the upcoming TV series titled “Hysteria,” Bruce Campbell will appear. This show focuses on a group of high school misfits who play heavy metal music and are struggling to make a name for themselves. Seizing the opportunity presented by their town’s fascination with the supernatural, they decide to create a reputation as a Satanic metal band. However, a chain of mysterious occurrences sets off a witch hunt that ultimately implicates them.
