Captain America 4: Harrison Ford Says Red Hulk Was Him ‘Being an Idiot for Money’

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the news about Harrison Ford joining the MCU as Red Hulk has left me both intrigued and amused. Having grown up watching the adventures of Indiana Jones on the silver screen, I never imagined seeing him don a superhero suit and wreak havoc in the Marvel Universe.

Promotion for “Captain America: A New Era” has commenced, as the film is set to hit theaters next year. In this latest installment, Anthony Mackie’s Marvel Cinematic Universe character assumes the role of Captain America after Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers departs from the series. Additionally, Harrison Ford has been enlisted to play the antagonist, Red Hulk. Ford, best known for his work as Indiana Jones, has shared some behind-the-scenes details about embodying this enraged character.

During a recent chat, Harrison Ford explained that he chose an “it doesn’t matter” approach to bring the character of Red Hulk to life.

In conversation with Variety, Ford was asked about his methodology for portraying a negative character in his first appearance in the MCU. With a chuckle, the 82-year-old actor replied, “What was required? It was simply not giving a care. It was being foolish for financial reasons, which I’ve done previously.”

Later on, Ford made it clear in a more formal tone, expressing, “I didn’t intend to criticize it. I was merely pointing out that there are specific actions involved, which typically your mom or acting coach wouldn’t approve of – or in this case, for me to play Red Hulk in Captain America 4, I had to go through a motion capture process.”

In an interview with Screen Rant, the Star Wars actor commended the Marvel Cinematic Universe for its unique approach. “It’s like a different kind of material, isn’t it?” Ford said. “Unencumbered by typical limitations on creativity. It’s enjoyable to work with and entertaining,” he further noted.

In the upcoming film “Captain America: Brave New World,” set for release on Valentine’s Day 2025, Harrison Ford assumes the part previously held by the late William Hurt as Thunderbolt Ross, also known as Red Hulk. Assisting him in this venture is Giancarlo Esposito, who will be portraying the villainous character Sidewinder.
