No Way Out: The Roulette Episode 1 Recap & Spoilers

As a long-time fan of Korean dramas, I must say that the premiere of “No Way Out: The Roulette” was nothing short of exhilarating! With its gripping storyline, talented cast, and intriguing mystery, this show has already managed to hook me in just one episode.

“No Escape: The Spin of Fate”

“Kim Guk-Ho, having served 13 years in prison, is now back in society. A reward of 20 billion won has been put forward by a streamer for his capture, causing turmoil and disputes among those who wish to protect him and those looking to exploit him.” The series, helmed by director Choi Kook-Hee, kicked off with the airing of two episodes.

Episode 1 commences with a character named Chang-Jae, drenched in blood and eluding pursuers. His flight turns urgent when a butcher attempts to sever his ear. At the same time, a roulette wheel spins and lands on three outcomes – Chang-Jae’s name, “ear to be chopped,” and a reward. It appears that the assailant is a friend of Chang-Jae’s, who aggressively carries out the act for monetary gain.

No Escape: The Roulette – Episode 1

At the local precinct, Joong-Sik unsuccessfully pleads with numerous banks for loans. Struggling financially, he receives an urgent call from a hospital and hastens there to investigate. Upon arrival, a young police officer guides him to an unconscious patient. This man is Chang-Jae, who has lost his ear. The authorities review the hospital’s security footage and identify a suspect, who discarded Chang-Jae and still possesses the severed ear.

It strikes Joong-Sik and Park Eun-Jeong (a junior police officer) as unusual. In fact, Joong-Sik questions if they could be mistaken, puzzling over how someone might openly display evidence on camera. Despite this, Joong-Sik prefers to steer clear of the case, considering it insignificant. However, his superior convinces him to delve deeper into the matter.

Did Jo Jin-Woong steal the butcher’s money?

Detective Joong-Sik tracks down the location specified in an address and arrives at the butcher’s residence, who is known for having severed Chang-Jae’s ear. Prior to encountering the perpetrator, the officer discovers a sack bearing a distinctive emblem. As the pursuit ensues, the butcher slips and meets his end.

Afterward, he gets back home, unlocks his car’s trunk, which contains the bag. Upon opening it, he finds a significant amount of something inside. Simultaneously, Chang-Jae goes to the butcher’s residence and searches for the bag. By reviewing footage from a dashcam, he discovers that the officer has taken it.

The following day, Joong-Sik’s wife expresses joy upon finding the money. To prevent raised eyebrows, the officer dismisses the cases, claiming the culprit has perished. Later on, Eun-Jeong alerts the officer that Chang-Jae is nowhere to be found at the hospital. He successfully persuades his subordinate to let the matter rest.

In episode 1 of No Way Out: The Roulette, Joong-Sik quickly understands that he’s treading on risky ground. It seems the funds were derived from an ominous online game known as “Spin the Roulette.” A masked individual broadcasts videos where he spins a wheel to delegate chores. If successful, he rewards generously. The police officer makes it his mission to apprehend this masked man.

As per the masked man’s directions, law enforcement officials find themselves stationed outside a stadium. The villain declares that his upcoming mission will take place within this stadium. He releases large balloons tethered to drones into the stadium’s interior. This action triggers a frenzy among the crowd as they rush in, with Joong-Sik attempting to be the first to arrive. Not long after, the balloons explode, scattering cash across the ground.

Following the dust settling, I find myself once more before my camera, the wheel of fate spinning anew. In just three days, Kim Guk-Ho steps out of prison’s cold embrace. A bounty of 20 billion won awaits the one who claims his life.

To find out what happens next, be sure to catch episode 2. Every Wednesday, you can tune in to “No Way Out: The Roulette” on Disney Plus and U+ Mobile TV as they broadcast two new episodes.
