According to recent reports, Maharaja has already grossed more than 100 crores at the box office. Interestingly, it’s been shared that Vijay Sethupathi chose not to take a salary for his role in Maharaja.

Has Vijay Sethupathi given up on charging salary for Maharaja?

In June this year, under the guidance of Nithilan Swaminathan, I had the pleasure of following the production of the Netflix-starrer Maharaja. As per multiple sources, this film was made on a tight budget of approximately Rs. 20 crore. To keep costs down even further, it’s rumored that Vijay Sethupathi graciously waived any payment for his role in the movie.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, due to this arrangement, the actor will now share a portion of the film’s earnings.

Vijay Sethupathi broke down to tears while shooting one particular scene in Maharaja

During an interview with Times Now, the actor playing Vikram Vedha revealed a personal connection to one specific scene from his movie Maharaja. He explained that he became quite emotional while filming this scene because he could fully immerse himself in the character’s mindset, as the character was recalling a burglary that occurred in his own home.

While genuinely weeping during his dialogue delivery, Vijay explained, “In truth, it was only when I told the third story to the police that I lost composure. The first two times I shared the story, I managed to hold back my emotions. However, the third time, when the memory surfaced, the tears were genuine.”

When Vijay expressed his desire to work in a special film remake

Earlier, during the promotion of his movie ‘Merry Christmas’, actor Vijay Sethupathi shared some personal thoughts in an open conversation with Humans of Bombay. Among various topics, he expressed his preference for Sriram Raghavan’s best film that he admires the most.

Referencing the Hindi movie “Badlapur,” featuring Varun Dhawan, Vijay expressed his hope that it gets remade in Tamil. He also voiced his desire to participate in this potential remake.

Vijay Sethupathi’s professional front

As of the first half of 2024, Vijay Sethupathi delivered two smashing hits, Merry Christmas and Maharaja. Moving forward, the actor is set to star in two more films, including the Indian silent film titled Gandhi Talks. 

On the other hand, Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai Part 2 is also on the cards for the star.
