7 things we learned about Tracker season 2 at San Diego Comic-Con

As a hardcore gamer and avid TV show fan, I was absolutely thrilled to hear about the exciting revelations at San Diego Comic-Con regarding “Tracker” season 2! Having followed this show since its premiere, it’s been an exhilarating ride, and I couldn’t wait to see what lies ahead for Colter Shaw and his Rewardist adventures.

The hit CBS show “Tracker” attracted a large following shortly after its debut, eventually securing the top spot for entertainment programs during the 2023-2024 television season. To commemorate the success of the first season and give fans a sneak peek into what’s next, the show organized a panel at Comic-Con in San Diego this past summer.

1. On Saturday, July 27, the panel took place in the Indigo Ballroom, featuring just two panelists: executive producer and showrunner Elwood Reid, along with Justin Hartley, the star of the show. This was Hartley’s first Comic-Con appearance in fifteen years, and his enthusiasm for being back at the con was evident. He also hinted at what’s coming up for Colter Shaw this season.

7 things we learned about Tracker season 2 at SDCC

1) Tracker’s premiere date has changed!

tracker’s second season, initially set for release on October 27, has been brought forward by two weeks, as announced at San Diego Comic-Con. Now, the premier episode is slated to air on CBS on October 13th instead.

2) Season 2 will have a larger episode order

In 2024, several TV shows had fewer episodes per season due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) strikes in the entertainment industry. For instance, the first season of “Tracker” comprised 13 episodes. However, it was recently disclosed during a panel that the upcoming second season will include a greater number, specifically 20 episodes.

3) There will be a UFO-centered episode this season

1. Is character Colter Shaw headed to Area 51? In a panel discussion, showrunner Elwood Reid hinted that Colter will delve deeper into diverse worlds and groups in each installment. According to Reid, “What’s fascinating about the series is that it explores a new world each episode.” He also shared that they are eager to unfold some captivating storylines this season, with the second episode focusing on authentic UFO exploration.

4) Jensen Ackles will return as Russell

1. In the first season of Tracker, Colter’s elder sibling, Russell, added to the intrigue surrounding Colter’s narrative, causing great anticipation among fans, particularly those who admire actor Jensen Ackles. During their Comic-Con panel, it was disclosed that not only UFOs but also the return of Russell will be featured in Tracker season 2, episode 2.

In the upcoming second season, Russell will make another appearance, but the producers have stated they plan to limit his presence to keep his future roles significant. You can catch a sneak peek of the UFO-themed episode featuring Jensen Ackles’ comeback from Comic-Con here: [paraphrased]

5) There will be a time-jump at the beginning of Tracker season 2

During the panel discussion, it was revealed that the upcoming season will begin with a time skip. When the season kicks off, Colter Shaw won’t be seen surfing at the beach. Instead, several months will have passed, and Colter will have relocated to a new place in his Airstream.

6) We’ll learn more about Billie this season

At the Comic-Con panel, the audience was intrigued by a secretive hint regarding the character Billie. Introduced in episode 6 as a prize hunter viewing Colter as competition, but ultimately joining forces with him to locate a stolen racehorse, Sofia Pernas portrays Billie. The showrunners confirmed Billie’s return for season 2 and added an enigma, revealing that Billie is not entirely the person we believe her to be.

7) We will meet the man who was in the woods with Colter’s dad

As a dedicated fan of the hit TV show, I’ve been eagerly waiting for new developments in the Colter Shaw mystery. With Season 2 just around the corner, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and excitement. However, let me be clear, we don’t have a definitive answer yet as to when or how the man seen with Colter Shaw’s father the night of his death will make an appearance.

As a huge fan of “Tracker,” I’m thrilled to share that the second season premieres this Sunday, October 13 at 8pm on CBS. For those who can’t wait until then, new episodes will be available for streaming the next day on Paramount+. And if you’re still working your way through season 1, why not finish it off before the new episodes drop? After all, all episodes are readily available to stream right now!
