Netflix’s The Boyfriend BL Dating Show Final Couples Revealed

As a longtime gamer and avid fan of reality dating shows, I must say that Netflix’s Japanese BL dating show “The Boyfriend” has truly captured my heart (and screen time) this summer. I’ve been hooked since the first episode, eagerly awaiting each new installment every week.

In the summer of 2024 on July 30, the last episodes 9 and 10 of the beloved Japanese BL dating show “The Boyfriend” were released on Netflix. Throughout the season, nine young men lived and ran a coffee shop together, creating deep bonds of love and friendship. The series concluded with some couples leaving the show as loving partners, while others experienced heartache and personal development.

In the last two episodes of Netflix’s series The Boyfriend, Shun and Dai admitted their feelings for each other and departed as a couple. On the other hand, Kazuto and Alan chose to explore their relationship further by spending more time together outside the show before making any decisions about their feelings. As they exited, holding hands, their connection remained uncertain but intriguing. Meanwhile, other characters successfully expressed their love and moved on from one-sided crushes.

As someone who has been a longtime fan of reality dating shows, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions as I watched the final episodes of “The Boyfriend BL” this week on Netflix. Having closely followed the lives of the nine cast members since the beginning, it was bittersweet to see their journey come to an end.

As a longtime fan of romantic reality shows, I’ve seen my fair share of couples form and break apart over the years. However, The Boyfriend season 1 really caught my attention with its unique cast and engaging storylines. After binge-watching the entire season, I found myself eagerly awaiting the big reveal: which couples would end up together at the end of the dating show?

Shun & Dai

After their private date, Shun and Dai, beaming with joy and contentment about their fresh relationship, re-entered the Green Room. Simultaneously, they informed their friends that they had solidified as a couple. However, a disagreement arose between Shun and Dai regarding a particular matter, causing tension in their relationship. Ikuo intervened to help Shun, which caused Dai to feel annoyed by his interference. Eventually, Dai and Shun managed to settle their differences when Dai vowed that future issues wouldn’t interfere with them anymore.

Kazuto & Alan

Kazuto and Alan had a significant and enjoyable time on their private date. Subsequently, Kazuto confessed feeling ambiguous and indecisive regarding his emotions towards Alan. Although Kazuto acknowledged Alan’s uniqueness in comparison to others, he remained unsure about the potential of their relationship beyond the show. Alan graciously appreciated Kazuto’s openness during their dinner conversation.

Did any other The Boyfriend cast members find love?

1. Apart from the mentioned duos, the others admitted to having one-sided affection and fostering deep friendships with their fellow cast members. Despite Gensei going on a date with Ryota, it became clear that Ryota harbored feelings for Kazuto. Ultimately, Gensei selected Ryota as his partner in the coffee truck venture and confessed his feelings before deciding to exit the show. He departed shortly after Usak.

The next day, Ikuo selected Dai as his coffee truck business companion. He penned down his emotions towards Dai in a letter and requested his partnership. Dai was touched but shared the significance of Shun in his life and declined Ikuo’s offer. Ikuo felt relieved having conveyed his feelings before departing from the dating program. In contrast, Ryota declared his feelings once more to Kazuto intending to leave together. Yet, after Kazuto refused him, Ryota became emotional and took his leave from other cast members.

As a gamer looking back on my experience, I didn’t find love among my castmates on that show, but I made some incredible friends instead. Their support and encouragement gave me the courage to share my intentions of coming out to my parents. Additionally, I felt I had grown so much as an individual during my time there, that I decided it was the right moment for me to move on.
