The Penguin Trailer Sets Release Date for Colin Farrell-led Spin-off Series

As a huge fan of both Batman and Colin Farrell, I can hardly contain my excitement for The Penguin! The new trailer looks absolutely captivating, and I’m thrilled to see Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot. Having already witnessed Farrell’s exceptional portrayal of the iconic villain in The Batman, I have no doubt that this series will be a must-watch.

A fresh trailer is out for the upcoming HBO series, titled “The Penguin,” which serves as a spin-off from 2022’s The Batman. In this new preview, Colin Farrell returns to portray the infamous villain Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot. The premiere episode is set to air on HBO on September 19 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, and it will be accessible for streaming on Max.

One week after the occurrences in The Batman, where Paul Dano’s Riddler destroyed the seawall surrounding Gotham City resulting in its flooding, the storyline unfolds with Cobblepot, played by Farrell, striving to rule over Gotham’s criminal realm.

What is The Penguin about?

I’m a big fan of this series, and among the stellar cast are Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Michael Zegen, Theo Rossi, and Carmen Ejogo. Each brings unique depth and talent to their roles.

“Lauren LeFranc, the showrunner for DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television series, shared with Entertainment Weekly that we’re immersed in Oz’s realm. We inhabit the hidden corners of the city where Oz wields power. He’s a mastermind who can’t be relied upon completely. Smart, calculated, but also unpredictably impulsive – it’s hard to foresee his actions.”

Farrell added that Milioti, who portrays Sofia, the daughter of Carmine Falcone in The Penguin, and Oz share a deep-rooted mistrust due to their exposure to deceitful and disheartening environments filled with violence. Their past is significantly linked.

The Penguin premieres as an HBO Original this coming September.

An upcoming installment of The Batman, featuring Robert Pattinson’s return as the Caped Crusader and Matt Reeves’ direction once more, is being developed. This new chapter, titled “The Batman 2,” is planned for a US theater release on October 2, 2026. The original film is now available to stream on Max.
