As a long-time gamer and film enthusiast, I’ve always been intrigued by the intersection of video games and movies. And let me tell you, the news that Henry Cavill’s collaboration with Guy Ritchie on “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” is now streaming on Netflix is a welcome addition to my summer viewing list.
Although Henry Cavill won’t reprise his role as Geralt in “The Witcher” season 4, you can still watch him on Netflix. However, it’s not going to be his “Superman” movies that are joining the streaming platform (though that could be an intriguing addition). Instead, Cavill’s earlier collaboration with director Guy Ritchie, “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”, is now available on Netflix starting July 27, 2024.
The August 2015 film is an adaptation of the NBC drama series that ran from 1964 to 1968, with the same title. In this movie, Cavill portrays Napoleon Solo, a CIA agent from America, who reluctantly joins forces with a Russian KGB agent to prevent a criminal group from triggering nuclear weapons and disrupting the Cold War’s fragile equilibrium.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. movie is now on Netflix
Despite earning mixed reviews with a 68% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. underperformed at the box office, raking in only around $110 million globally against an estimated production cost of $75 million. This financial disappointment led many to label the spy film a flop. Nevertheless, some viewers continued to appreciate it.
Despite lackluster sales following its debut, there have been whispers about a possible sequel to “U.N.C.L.E.”. Cavill and Ritchie worked together on a new project, “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare”, and with its upcoming release on Netflix this summer, there’s hope that renewed interest could lead to the next installment of “U.N.C.L.E.”
Apart from Henry Cavill in the leading role, the movie also stars:
- Armie Hammer as Illya Kuryakin
- Alicia Vikander as Gaby Teller
- Elizabeth Debicki as Victoria Vinciguerra
- Sylvester Groth as Uncle Rudi
- Christian Berkel as Udo Teller
- Luca Calvani as Alexander Vinciguerra
- Misha Kuznetsov as Oleg
- Jared Harris as Adrian Sanders
- Hugh Grant as Alexander Waverly
If you’re craving more Henry Cavill in your Netflix binge-watching sessions, you have some great options! In addition to “Enola Holmes” and the initial three seasons of “The Witcher,” where he stars, you can catch him in the 2017 Netflix original film “Sand Castle.” For Guy Ritchie fans, don’t miss out on “The Gentlemen,” a critically acclaimed Netflix series inspired by his movie of the same name. Enjoy!
Above it has been noted that Cavill featured in Ritchie’s 2024 war movie “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” where Eiza González and Henry Golding also acted. In the coming year 2025, Cavill is set to appear in Ritchie’s action film titled “In the Grey.” Given their frequent collaborations, one can only anticipate more projects from this dynamic duo.
On July 27, when “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” starts streaming on Netflix, many fans and novice viewers are expected to rediscover this film. Spy movies continue to captivate audiences, especially those with a strong cultural influence. However, there’s one significant flaw in the cast that you might have guessed. Despite this issue, Cavill delivers an underappreciated performance in the lead role, making it an excellent choice for your next movie night.
