The First Descendant accused of plagiarism again, as new character uses replica of Overwatch 2 gun

As a devoted fan of The First Descendant, I’ve been following the game closely since its launch, hoping for a thrilling looter shooter experience. However, I can’t help but feel dismayed and disappointed as the game continues to face accusations of plagiarism.

Nexon’s looter shooter has been making progress since its rocky start, but once more, the game is facing renewed controversy. Most recently, The First Descendant is under fire for allegations of plagiarism. Following the reveal of a new character, Luna, developers shared an image showing her wielding a gun strikingly similar to Lucio’s from Overwatch 2.

Recently on X, previously known as Twitter, Nexon unveiled a new option for a swimsuit costume for the character Luna. They shared a playful description hinting at her singing abilities and released an image of the costume. In this outfit, Luna is depicted holding a gun that resembles Lucio’s sound-generating weapon. Furthermore, an observant X user noted that Luna’s swimsuit costume bears a striking resemblance to a Marvel Super War character named Luna Snow.

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: When I first heard about the plagiarism accusations against this game, I thought it might have been an honest mistake. But unfortunately, it wasn’t an isolated incident. In the initial stages of the game’s release, Nexon was accused of copying icons from Destiny 2. The backlash that ensued compelled the developers to issue a statement to Forbes’ Paul Tassi, promising changes to their visual content.

It’s possible that these similarities between “The First Descendant” and another game are just a coincidence, despite how unlikely that may seem. Since “The First Descendant” recently unveiled Luna’s swimsuit design, Nexon has yet to comment on the recent allegations of plagiarism. However, given the growing criticism over Nexon’s frequent use of assets from other games, the developers might choose to address these claims more promptly than usual.
