As a passionate gamer and sci-fi enthusiast, I have been eagerly waiting for the release of “Wonderland” on Netflix. The intriguing concept of using artificial intelligence to help people reconnect with their lost ones in various scenarios has piqued my curiosity since I first heard about it.
Starting July 26, 2024, the intriguing South Korean film “Wonderland” becomes accessible to viewers worldwide on Netflix. This sci-fi fantasy production presents various narratives centered around individuals who use a sophisticated AI system. Notably, this technology serves as a bridge for those dealing with grief to reconnect with their deceased loved ones. A grieving flight attendant and a mourning mother explore the concept of reality and humanity when AI technology allows them to communicate with the deceased. Wonderland Korean movie 2024 ending explained & spoilers
In the concluding scenes of the 2024 Korean film “Wonderland,” our protagonists Hae-Ri (performed by Jung Yu-Mi) and her junior colleague Hyeon-Su (portrayed by Choi Woo-Shik), operate an advanced AI service called Wonderland. Their unique business enables individuals to reconnect with deceased or comatose loved ones. However, as the story reaches its finale, both characters are compelled to make a momentous decision between embracing the authenticity of reality or being ensnared in the allure of illusion.
As a person who has lost a beloved family member, I can only imagine the depth of emotion and longing that Bai Li feels as she makes her deal before her death. The thought of being able to communicate with my deceased mother one last time would be an indescribable comfort, and perhaps even a sense of peace. I admire Bai Li’s selflessness in making this arrangement, knowing that it may only be an illusion but still choosing to take that chance for the sake of their relationship.

Prior to passing away, Bai Li registers for the Wonderland service. She specifies that her digital persona should assume the role of an archaeologist. Following her demise, an AI version of Bai Li materializes at a made-up airport, unaware that the surroundings are contrived. There, she encounters Seong Jun (Gong Yoo), who is actually her late husband. Despite not recognizing him, he introduces himself as a new acquaintance and becomes friends with her.
As someone who has experienced the loss of a loved one, I can only imagine the pain and confusion Bai Li’s daughter must be feeling right now. She goes about her daily life, blissfully unaware that her beloved mother has passed away. Her interactions with her grandmother, who is trying to help her reconnect with her deceased mother, bring moments of joy but also leave Bai Li’s elder lying in a heart-wrenching silence, knowing the truth that her granddaughter does not yet possess.
Despite Bai Li’s disruption during the procedure, the system gets disrupted. Hae-Ri then chooses to restart, but this action will result in the loss of the mother’s recent memories. Her past few days will be erased, and she will forget everything that transpired. Eventually, the system stabilizes, and the family decides to maintain their deception. Bai Li’s narrative commences anew at the airport where she encounters Seong Jun for a second time.
