Wuthering Waves fans collectively call out “annoyingly designed” boss fight

As a long-time gamer with hundreds of hours spent on various action RPGs and MMORPGs, I can’t help but feel frustrated when it comes to fighting Jue in Wuthering Waves. The community’s warnings about the true end-game grind of farming boss fights were all too true for me when I encountered this dragon.

If you’ve played Wuthering Waves for an extended period, you’ll encounter the challenging end-game phase that involves farming boss battles. One of these battles pits you against Jue, a dragon linked to Jinhsi, known for its magnificence. However, players often find the less appealing aspect of this battle is its frustrating completion process.

Currently, Wuthering Waves is on version 1.1, and recently introduced new 5-Star Resonators Jinshi and Changli. As we move forward, there have been many leaks about the upcoming seasons. We can expect new characters in season 1.3, and there’s a rumor that the game may skip from version 1.4 to 1.5 or even 2.0.

OP MMoguu expressed their exasperation on r/WutheringWaves over the Jue boss fight, querying, “Am I approaching this battle incorrectly, or is its design particularly irritating?” The post elaborated, “I’m not discussing difficulty here but rather the way one engages with him. How on earth am I supposed to inflict damage upon this Flying Worm when it persistently flies away and lands several meters distant for a brief period? This recalls frustrating experiences I had battling Rathalos in Monster Hunter: World.”

Am I fighting Jue wrong or is his fight really just annoyingly designed?

Based on the advice I’ve received from a seasoned player, if you aim to tackle Jue with ease, there are certain strategies you must employ. I’ve learned this the hard way, having experienced being teleported right into his presence when pressing any direction at the start of the fight. This can happen even during a battle where you’re switching characters rapidly as part of a Calcharo team.

After taking some advice from generous Reddit users, I gave their suggestion a try in my latest gaming session. They recommended that I should stay put and let the enemy approach me instead of chasing after him. To my surprise, this strategy proved to be effective! However, it significantly reduced the excitement and challenge of the fight, making it feel less engaging.

Surprisingly, what initially sparked grumblings about the fight being overly irritating, has now turned into complaints of it being “unbearably dull” due to its true mechanics. Whether this issue will be tackled for future battles remains to be determined. This isn’t an isolated case with Wuthering Waves; comments on the post mention similar feelings towards Wenut in Genshin and other aerial bosses that spend most of their time aloft.
