City of God: The Fight Rages On Trailer Previews Upcoming Sequel Show

As a longtime fan of the City of God film, I am beyond excited for the upcoming HBO Max series, “City of God: The Fight Rages On.” The trailer alone has transported me back to the raw and gritty world of the original, but this time with the added depth and complexity that only a television series can offer.

I’m excitedly looking forward to the new Max show trailer for “City of God: The Fight Rages On.” This intriguing preview hints at the continuation of the compelling crime drama series, which was originally brought to life by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund in their 2002 film.

Starting August 25th, Sunday, on HBO Latino in the United States, the new series will make its debut. For those with access to Max, it will also be streamable. Spanning over six weeks, new episodes will drop every Sunday, concluding on September 29th.

What happens in the City of God trailer?

As someone who has spent years covering the gritty underbelly of urban life as a photojournalist, I can tell you that the struggle for power and control over the City of God is a battle that never truly ends. The passage of time, marked by the two decades since the events depicted in the film, only serves to heighten the intensity of this ongoing war.

In the early 2000s, as depicted in the HBO Original series plot, the return of a young drug dealer from prison reignites chaos in Cidade de Deus. Residents find themselves caught between drug traffickers, militias, and authorities, leading them to band together in an attempt to resist oppression.

In the City of God sequel, actors Alexandre Rodrigues, Roberta Rodrigues, Thiago Martins, Sabrina Rosa, Kiko Marques, Edson Oliveira, Andréia Horta, Marcos Palmeira, Eli Ferreira, Luellem de Castro, Jefferson Brasil, Otávio Linhares, Rafael Lozano, Leandro Daniel, and Luiz Bertazzo reappear, with flashbacks featuring scenes from the film. The cast is expanded to include new talents hailing from Rio de Janeiro’s communities of Cidade de Deus, Vidigal, and Mangueira.
