Is Ruby Franke Still in Prison & When Will She Become Eligible for Parole?

As a follower and avid viewer of Ruby Franke‘s YouTube channel 8 Passengers, I was captivated by her family’s unique dynamics and their seemingly unconventional yet loving lifestyle. Ruby and her husband, Kevin, shared every aspect of their lives with the world, documenting their adventures, homeschooling, and even their strict parenting strategies that often drew criticism from viewers. However, little did we know that beneath the surface, their home was a far cry from the idyllic life portrayed on screen.

Ruby Franke, currently incarcerated with her business partner Jodi Hildebrandt following convictions for mistreating their children, will undergo her initial parole hearing in 2026. Both Franke and Hildebrandt admitted guilt to four charges of severe child abuse each. Presently, they are serving their sentences at the Utah State Correctional Facility.

Franke, a Utah mother of six who previously managed the YouTube channel 8 Passengers, which is no longer in operation, once shared her family’s life with her then-husband Kevin through videos. Their content featured their large brood. However, their unconventional parenting methods frequently drew criticism from viewers.

In late August 2023, a controversial situation involving Ruby Franke emerged. Her son allegedly ran away from Jodi Hildebrandt’s home and sought help at a neighbor’s place. Upon investigation, it was discovered that Hildebrandt and the women had kept the 12-year-old boy confined in their house. When authorities arrived, they also found one of Franke’s daughters in the same residence.

Ruby Frank in prison: When will the convicted felon become eligible for parole?

According to ABC 4’s report, Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt, currently incarcerated, are set to have their initial parole hearing in December 2026. Recent court records disclosed that the Utah Parole Board arranged for their first hearing three years following their guilty pleas in December 2023. Both Franke and Hildebrandt admitted guilt to four counts of aggravated child abuse each.

On August 30, 2023, Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt were initially apprehended by authorities. This arrest occurred shortly following an incident where one of Franke’s 12-year-old sons managed to escape from Hildebrandt’s residence. The boy subsequently made his way to a neighbor’s house, seeking assistance and food. Upon arrival, the neighbor observed the child looking malnourished and bearing duct tape on his ankles. In response, the police were alerted, and they discovered Franke’s daughter in a similar state inside a closet within that same residence.

As reported by People Magazine, Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt were given identical prison terms following their guilty pleas. They were sentenced to serve four separate terms of between 1 and 15 years for each of the four counts of aggravated child abuse they were charged with. These sentences will be served one after another.

The case against Franke and Hildebrandt has been featured extensively since it emerged. An episode of ABC 20/20 titled “Ruby Franke: From Momfluencer to Felon” is accessible for viewing on Hulu and ABC Networks. Additionally, Impact X Nightline covered the story in one of their episodes, which can currently be streamed on Hulu.
