The behind-the-scenes look into the production process of the upcoming film adaptation is absolutely captivating. I’ve attended numerous Broadway shows throughout my life, and the attention to detail and dedication put into bringing the magical world of Oz to life on screen is truly awe-inspiring.


Universal Pictures has recently shared a fresh trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical “Wicked.” Set to hit theaters in two parts, the first installment, titled “Wicked: Part One,” is scheduled for release on November 22, 2024. The second part, named “Wicked: Part Two,” is planned for a November 26, 2025 premiere.

The video offers fans an exclusive peek into the creative process of bringing Elphaba and Glinda’s enchanted realm to the stage. It reveals the intricate set design efforts of the production team, who construct elaborate and captivating sets on a grand scale, allowing viewers to experience the magic of the Land of Oz more intimately.

According to Gregory Maguire’s beloved novel and the successful musical on Broadway, the upcoming Wicked movies are helmed by Jon M. Chu with a screenplay penned by Winnie Holzman, who authored the musical’s book. The impressive cast includes Cynthia Erivo portraying Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Michelle Yeoh in the role of Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, and Keala Settle as Miss Coddle. Marissa Bode plays Nessarose Thropp, Bronwyn James is ShenShen, and Ethan Slater is Boq, among others. Three-time Oscar-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz contributes to the films’ music and lyrics. Marc Platt produces both movies through his Universal-based production company, Marc Platt Productions.

In this retelling of the Oz tale, we uncover the hidden narrative of Elphaba and Glinda: Elphaba, a young woman with emerald skin, misjudged due to her unusual appearance, embarks on an journey to unlock her latent abilities; while Glinda, a well-liked girl, cradled by privilege and aspiration, seeks to uncover her authentic compassion. Their bond is formed at Shiz University in the magical realm of Oz. After an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship faces a critical juncture, leading them down divergent paths. Glinda’s insatiable thirst for popularity steers her towards power, while Elphaba’s commitment to staying true to herself and those around her results in surprising and startling consequences that shape her destiny as Glinda the Good Witch or the infamous Wicked Witch of the West. Their extraordinary journeys through Oz unfold, ultimately revealing their preordained roles.
