The Long Walk: Stephen King Movie Directed by Hunger Games’ Francis Lawrence Adds 7 to Cast

As a huge fan of Stephen King’s work and a long-time admirer of Francis Lawrence‘s filmmaking abilities, I am beyond excited about the latest developments for “The Long Walk.” The addition of these seven new cast members to join Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson is a fantastic move, adding depth and diversity to this dystopian tale.

As a passionate gamer and an avid fan of both Stephen King’s literature and Francis Lawrence’s direction in “The Hunger Games,” I’m thrilled to share some exciting news. Seven fresh faces have joined the cast of “The Long Walk,” a new adaptation of one of King’s most chilling stories, currently under Lawrence’s skillful guidance.

Upcoming movie “The Long Walk” by Lionsgate is a film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1979 novel with the same title. Previously reported, Cooper Hoffman (“Licorice Pizza”) and David Jonsson (“Alien: Romulus”) were under consideration for the lead roles.

Per Deadline, Hoffman and Jonsson’s casting has now been confirmed.

Which new cast members have joined The Long Walk?

Additionally, it’s been announced that The Long Walk will feature Charlie Plummer (National Anthem, Looking for Alaska), Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit), Garrett Wareing (Manifest), Tut Nyuot (The Witcher: Blood Origin), Ben Wang (American Born Chinese), Jordan Gonzalez (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin), and Joshua Odjick (Welcome to Derry) in its cast.

In the unfolding of a dystopian United States, King’s “The Long Walk” introduces an annual competition where participants are required to march relentlessly for great distances without pause. Should they falter in their stride, the consequence is grim: termination.

The filming of The Long Walk is currently in progress. This will carry on in Manitoba, Canada, during the summer months. No specific release date for this Lionsgate production has been disclosed yet.

JT Mollner penned the film’s screenplay, while he, Lawrence, Roy Lee, Cameron MacConomy, and Steven Schneider all act as producers for the project.

Previously, Lawrence has acted in several films based on the Hunger Games series, such as “Catching Fire” (2013), “Mockingjay — Part 1” (2014), and “Mockingjay — Part 2” (2015). He also appeared in “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” (2023). Furthermore, Lawrence has been featured in other movies including “Constantine” (2005), “I Am Legend” (2007), “Water for Elephants” (2011), “Red Sparrow” (2018), and “Slumberland” (2022).
