Starting August 20, 2024, Torched – The Story of Austin Torch can be rented or bought on the internet, cable, and satellite systems in North America. Freestyle Digital Media has secured the rights to distribute this video-on-demand title.
I’ve had the pleasure of discovering a remarkable documentary that has left quite an impression on audiences. At the 2023 Reel East Texas Film Festival, it not only took home the Audience Award for Best Feature Film but also the award for Best Director (Documentary). And just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, it went on to claim the Audience Award at Dances With Films New York in 2023 as well. What a feat!
The documentary chronicles the journey of several Austin Torch team members, starting from their formation in 2018 up to their comeback season in 2022. Among these individuals are a dedicated yet overburdened team president and player juggling her dreams with her new marriage; a corporate sales manager seeking excitement in building a team and playing a sport; a fourth-grade teacher using her flamboyant personality to promote the Torch; and an unexpected male ally, “Bonesaw,” whose former career as a touring band frontman makes him an ideal co-founder and advocate for women’s/non-binary sports. Throughout this season, one fact emerges: the Austin Torch may not always emerge victorious, but they never truly lose. It transcends being just a team; it is a powerful movement.
