As a die-hard WWE fan, I have been following Rey Mysterio and his family’s incredible journey in professional wrestling for years. The father-son duo making history as the first tag team champions in WWE is an achievement that will always hold a special place in my heart.

At WrestleMania Backlash in 2021, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik Mysterio made history by earning the title of the first father-son tag team champions in WWE.

In 2020, I made my entrance into the world of WWE as the new, young Mysterio, often recognized as Rey Mysterio’s son. It was an honor to follow in the footsteps of such a legendary luchador, but establishing my own identity proved to be quite a challenge. That is, until 2022 when my career experienced a thrilling transformation.

At Clash at the Castle in 2022, Dominik Mysterio surprised and shocked fans by turning on both Edge and his father, Rey Mysterio. This unexpected betrayal was a significant turning point for Dominik, catapulting him into the role of an intriguing antagonist. Since then, as a member of The Judgment Day, he has thrived in his newfound solo status.

Despite the strong dislike from fans, it’s clear that Mysterio faces a chorus of boos whenever he speaks, making it difficult for his words to be heard even with a microphone.

Dom, once known as the “Dirty” version of WWE’s beloved Dom, has earned a reputation as one of pro wrestling’s best villains. His journey from a clean-cut babyface to a dominant heel is impressive. More recently, Dominik Mysterio spoke about the ongoing comparisons to his father Rey Mysterio. He reflected on whether these comparisons continue to cast a shadow over him.

I recently had the pleasure of joining ESPN Dayton for an engaging conversation. During the interview, I was asked about feeling overshadowed by my father’s legacy. However, I wanted to clarify that I’ve never seen it that way. Instead, I focus on carving out my own identity and making a name for myself in the wrestling world.

He expressed that he didn’t view following in someone else’s footsteps as being in their shadow. Instead, he felt clear about the actions needed and the path ahead, keeping focused on his work without giving much thought to filling those shoes. Being given the responsibility to main event on SmackDown, NXT, and Raw within the same week was an accomplishment that he preferred not to dwell on, as life moves so quickly.

For some time now, WWE has recognized Dirty Dom’s hidden talents. It’s intriguing when WWE will bestow a major singles title upon him, as he currently holds the NXT North American Championship, but has not yet claimed a solo championship title on the main roster.
