As a dedicated follower of Rakshit Shetty’s career, I have always admired his passion and dedication towards Kannada cinema. His ability to produce and act in high-quality films that resonate with audiences is truly commendable. However, the recent news of him seeking anticipatory bail following a copyright infringement case against him has left me feeling somewhat disappointed and concerned.
Rakshit Shetty has asked the court for permission to be released on bail before any arrest takes place, as the Bengaluru Police have filed a complaint against him for allegedly using copyrighted songs from the films “Nyaya Ellide” and “Gaalimaathu” in his movie “Bachelor Party,” without obtaining proper authorization from MRT Music Company. The complaint was lodged by Naveen Kumar on behalf of the production company.
Rakhsit Shetty avoids arrest in copyright case
To prevent being taken into custody, Rakshit Shetty applied for bail before being formally charged at the Bangalore Sessions Court. According to news outlets, the court date for this case is set for July 24th.
For those unfamiliar with the situation, the songs “Nyaya Ellidaya” and “Omme Ninnannu,” which appeared in the movie “Bachelor Party,” produced by Paramvah Studios under Shetty’s direction, have become a source of contention. Naveen Kumar from MRT Music filed a complaint that led to an FIR being issued at the Yeshwantpur police station, alleging that Shetty had used these songs without obtaining proper permissions, infringing upon copyright laws.
Paramvah Studios issues open letter
Recently, Paramvah Studios posted a public statement on social media addressing the police report submitted by MRT Music. The report claimed that Paramvah Studios had utilized parts of two MRT-owned songs without prior consent.
Paramvah Studios deliberately chose not to obtain permission from MRT to use their songs, despite discussions on the matter. They believed the requested compensation was too high.
In the open letter, the studio admitted that there had been contact between the parties and disclosed that the disputed music was played for a short time and another song was heard in the background of a TV. The studio stated its intention to defend against the accusations in court to clarify what qualifies as copyright infringement and to set the standards for compensation and damages in such situations.
At present, Rakshit Shetty is engaged in the early stages of production for his upcoming directorial project, “Richard Anthony – Lord of the Seas.” This film serves as a prequel to his initial directorial effort, “Ulidavaru Kandante.”
