The Bear’s Jon Bernthal nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy

The Bear's Jon Bernthal nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy

As a dedicated gamer and television enthusiast with a soft spot for well-crafted narratives and exceptional performances, I can’t help but be thrilled about the recent Emmy nominations for FX’s The Bear. This groundbreaking series has taken the comedy world by storm, breaking records left and right, and it’s no wonder why – with its captivating storyline, brilliant ensemble cast, and stunning direction.

In the year 2024, the comedy series “The Bear” by FX earned an astonishing 23 Emmy nominations, surpassing the previous record of 22 nominations set by “30 Rock” in 2022. Despite debates about whether this show truly belongs in the comedy genre, it’s clear that viewers should give it a try. Exciting news for “The Walking Dead” fans: Jon Bernthal, who played Shane Walsh in seasons 1 and 2, has also been nominated for his role in “The Bear,” earning him an Emmy nod.

Bernthal is up for the Outstanding Guest Actor award in a Comedy Series for his performance as Mikey in The Bear. He’s competing against his fellow cast members, Bob Odenkirk and Will Poulter. Other notable actors in this category include Matthew Broderick for “Only Murders in the Building,” Ryan Gosling for “Saturday Night Live,” and Christopher Lloyd for “Hacks.” It’s quite an accomplished lineup. Furthermore, Olivia Colman and Jamie Lee Curtis have been nominated in the female category for their roles in The Bear for this same award.

The TV Academy picked out particular episodes to highlight the acting skills of the nominees for these guest roles. For Bernthal, it was the sixth episode of season 2, titled “Fishes,” that showcased his standout performance during that season.

Bernthal plays the role of Mikey, older sibling to Jeremy Allen White’s character Carmy Berzatto in the FX series created by Christopher Storer. In this show, Carmy comes back to Chicago to oversee the sandwich shop that once belonged to his late brother. Bernthal is featured in flashbacks, adding depth to the family background. The installment, helmed by Storer, has received a nomination for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series.

As a seasoned story analyst with years of experience under my belt, I’ve read countless synopses and studied character development from various angles. Based on this “Fishes” synopsis, it seems to me that Mikey is grappling with deep-rooted emotional issues that have been exacerbated by his complicated relationship with Uncle Lee. His inner turmoil comes to a head when Carmy enters the picture and brings up the possibility of revitalizing The Beef, revealing Mikey’s financial woes and past struggles with depression.

As a devoted fan of this particular TV show, I can confidently say that out of all the episodes in season 2, this one truly stands out as my absolute favorite. The reason? The exceptional ensemble guest cast that graced our screens.
