As a dedicated fan of The Boys, I was absolutely blown away by Antony Starr’s final scene in Season 4. The way he effortlessly brought Homelander’s narcissistic and power-hungry personality to life in that moment was nothing short of brilliant.
Antony Starr, who stars in “The Boys” Season 4 finale, has described the climactic scene between him and his superhero comrades, comparing their dynamic unfavorably to another well-known group.
Following the release of The Boys Season 4 finale on Prime Video today, Starr spoke with Vulture about his last scene. During this scene, Starr’s character Homelander emerges as the winner and effectively governs the United States through a martial law instated by the President.
In a speech, Homelander pledges a safer world and vows to use his superhero squad to capture anyone he considers “enemies of the state.” Originally, Starr was supposed to remain silent during this scene on set.
At first, Starr remained silent and hidden in the background. The camera likely would have focused on Calhoun, showing only a satisfied smile from me. However, I had a feeling that Calhoun was merely a puppet controlled by someone else, and Homelander’s ego would demand center stage. I whispered to Eric, “Mate, it’s just like Homie to push that guy aside and declare, ‘This is what truly will unfold.”’ Eric seized the opportunity and took action, interrupting Calhoun and moving him out of the way, conveying the message without the need for lengthy dialogue.
The actor described the experience as if they were in the pivotal scene of a film’s second act, foreshadowing a grand finale with the heroes confronting an adversary akin to Star Wars’ formidable Empire.
Starr commented, “We’re reaching the intermission in this story, with our heroes seemingly defeated and on the brink of failure.” He continued, “I wanted to convey that Homelander, the ruthless and egotistical antagonist, has gained the upper hand. This sets the stage for The Boys to regroup and battle back as we approach season five. The series centers around ordinary people attempting to overthrow an oppressive regime — much like the Rebel Alliance in Star Wars.”
The Boys Season 4 is now available to stream on Prime Video in its entirety.
