Lifetime's juiciest drama series will be your August 2024 binge-watch on Netflix

As a dedicated fan of quality television, I couldn’t be more thrilled to share the news that my beloved series “UnREAL” is coming to Netflix next August! The anticipation for this addition to my watch list has been building steadily as the months roll by, and now it seems that my wait will soon be over.

As a dedicated binge-watcher with a penchant for both comedies and dramas, I can’t help but get excited about the latest additions to my Netflix watch list for August 2024. With Emily in Paris returning for its fourth season and The Umbrella Academy wrapping up, it feels like a double whammy of entertainment that’s tailor-made for me.

Based on What’s on Netflix’s report, starting August 19, 2024, in the US, Netflix subscribers can look forward to streaming all four seasons of the widely popular drama series “UnREAL.” On this same day, a dozen shows from AMC will also join Netflix. So mark your calendars, binge-watchers, for an action-packed viewing experience!

UnREAL comes from co-creators Marti Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro and centers itself in the world of reality television, specifically a dating series called Everlasting that’s a thinly veiled satire of ABC’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Shiri Appleby stars as producer Rachel Goldberg, who’s at the will of her ambitious and demanding boss, executive producer Quinn King (Constance Zimmer).

UnREAL joins growing list of new content on Netflix

The show “Everlasting” made its debut on Lifetime in June 2015 and quickly gained immense critical acclaim, drawing large viewership for the cable network. Audiences were captivated by the portrayal of reality TV production behind the scenes, although some speculated that the show’s heightened drama and a producer’s penchant for manufacturing storylines bore striking resemblance to real-life occurrences on set.

Back in 2016, I was thrilled when “UnREAL” received a Peabody Award and earned two Emmy nominations! Constance Zimmer’s exceptional performance as a supporting actress in a drama series was recognized with one of those nods, as well as the writing team of Noxon and Shapiro for their outstanding work. Sadly, despite these accolades, the show seemed to lose some steam after taking a year-long break between seasons 2 and 3.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that after wrapping up its fourth and abbreviated eight-episode season, UnREAL made a transition to Hulu as an original production for the streaming platform. Although some episodes were still broadcasted on Lifetime, the digital shift brought about a significant cultural impact in a short span of time. It’s truly exciting to witness that this groundbreaking series will continue to generate buzz and be part of ongoing discussions, all thanks to its new home on Netflix.

In recent times, including this current year, Netflix has been actively increasing the amount of content it obtains from external production houses. It recently struck a deal with Disney for non-exclusive rights to some shows on a temporary basis, and its collaboration with CBS studios remains robust, resulting in popular additions like “Your Honor” and “Fire Country”.
