Best Monster K-Dramas Like Sweet Home

As a dedicated fan of Korean monster dramas, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Sweet Home season 3. The genre has captured my imagination with its unique blend of horror, suspense, and human drama. I fondly remember binge-watching the first two seasons, immersed in the captivating stories of survival and transformation.

As a dedicated gamer and avid fan of South Korean entertainment, I’ve been fortunate enough to witness an abundance of thrilling monster K-dramas throughout the years. Among my favorites are Sweet Home, Gyeongseong Creature, and Parasyte: The Grey. I’m beyond excited to share that very soon, we’ll be graced with a new season of the cherished monster drama, Sweet Home!

In the third installment of Sweet Home, featuring Song Kang, Lee Jin-Woo, Lee Do-Hyun, and Go Min-Si, viewers can look forward to binge-watching all eight episodes at once, which will be available on Netflix starting July 19, 2024. The intriguing plot of this new season revolves around a world where monsters and humans are close to coexisting, forcing humanity to make a tough decision as conflicting desires ignite an intense struggle.

As fans eagerly anticipate the release of the next monster-themed K-drama installment, they can satiate their cravings by checking out other engaging shows in this genre. Here are some series recommendations:

Gyeongseong Creature

In December 2023, the Netflix series “Gyeongseong Creature” was released for the first time. The plot takes place in the early stages of 1945 when Japan ruled over Korea. Despite the harsh treatment endured by most Koreans in what is now Seoul (then called Gyeongseong), Jang Tae-Sang, portrayed by Park Seo-Joon, amasses wealth and a strong social circle. He operates the largest pawn shop, House of Golden Treasure, and is fiercely protective of it, unwilling to let the Japanese seize it. However, when police commissioner Ishikawa from Japan demands his help in finding his lost mistress, Tae-Sang reluctantly complies.

During his assignment, he encounters detective Chae-ok (Han So-Hee), who is on a quest to locate her mother. The clues lead them to the off-limits Ongseong Hospital. Upon arrival, they discover hostages and a horrifying monster. Let’s see how these two will manage to subdue this lethal beast.

You can express it this way: The first season of the Korean drama, which is helmed by Jung Dong-Yoon, is currently streaming on Netflix. Look forward to its upcoming second season.

Parasyte: The Grey

Parasite: The Grey centers around an unsettling day when alien parasites descend upon Earth. Among these invaders are quirky, gumball-like beings that infiltrate the human brain, taking control of their hosts’ bodies. As a result, people transform into monsters, putting others’ lives at risk. Remarkably, one such parasite that infests Jung Soo-In (Jeon So-Nee) forms a bond with its host, and they start living together and supporting each other amidst the turmoil. Simultaneously, an elite team of parasitic beings called The Grey aims to annihilate all human parasites and specifically targets Soo-In.

As a passionate gamer and avid fan of anime, I’m thrilled to share that the six-episode K-drama “Parasyte” is now streaming on Netflix. This captivating series takes place in the same intriguing universe as Hitoshi Iwaaki’s original manga of the same name. I can’t wait to see So-Nee, played by a talented actress, Koo Kyo-Hwan, Kwon Hae-Hyo, and Lee Jung-Hyun bring their characters to life in the lead roles.

Hellbound

As a longtime fan of Korean dramas and supernatural tales, I was absolutely captivated by “Hellbound,” the recent monster K-drama that took the world by storm in 2021. Having grown up reading various webtoons, I couldn’t help but be drawn to this adaptation of a popular one, sharing the same intriguing title. The storyline was unlike anything I had ever seen before – supernatural creatures invading our Earth and condemning humans to hell!

Under the guidance of director Yeon Sang-Ho, this Korean drama is a feast for the eyes and boasts scenes that will send shivers down your spine. The finale leaves viewers eagerly anticipating the next installment with an intriguing teaser for season 2. The ensemble features Yoo Ah-In, Kim Hyun-Joo, Won Jin-Ah, Park Jeong-Min, and Ryu Kyung-Su. You can catch up on this series on Netflix.

Duty After School

As a dedicated gamer, I’m excited to share my thoughts on Duty After School, a gripping two-part series consisting of ten episodes. This thrilling K-drama is inspired by a popular webtoon and follows the lives of third-year high school students at Sungjin High School.

Under the guidance of director Sung Yong-Il, this series introduces actors including Shin Hyun-Soo, Lee Soon-Won, Kim Ki-Hae, Choi Moon-Hee, Moon Sang-Min, Lee Yeon, Kim Su-Gyeom, and Kwon Eun-Bin. You can stream it on Viki.
