As a huge fan of both Edgar Wright and Stephen King, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard that Wright would be remaking “The Running Man” with Glen Powell starring in it. When Powell confirmed to IndieWire that filming will begin this fall, I was left in awe.
Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man will begin filming this fall.
In the spring of 2024, it came to light that Wright would be at the helm of a new adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Running Man.” Actor Glen Powell has been announced as the lead, and screenwriter Michael Bacall penned the film’s script.
I’m thrilled to share that according to Powell’s confirmation to IndieWire, we can look forward to the filming of The Running Man remake starting this fall!
What did Glen Powell say about The Running Man remake?
When inquired about his involvement in the film, Powell shared, “I was thrilled because I happened to look up ‘Edgar Wright’ in my emails the other day. We’ve been exchanging script ideas and it’s an amazing world he’s building for this project. It’s truly exceptional. Both of us are avid fans of the Stephen King book, and it promises to be a fantastic character. I’m really looking forward to it. Incidentally, I had made a list of directors I wanted to collaborate with in 2008 when I relocated to LA, and Edgar Wright was my top pick. So, getting the chance to work with him now is just incredibly exciting for me.”
I made a last-minute appeal to Wright during production, sharing my unwavering commitment to our project. Anyone who’s worked with me knows I bring my A-game and put in long hours. I wanted to remind him that when we dive into the heart of filmmaking, I’ll be there delivering my best. Not only do I take this job seriously, but as a fan, I don’t want to let down my idol, Edgar. Over the past few years, Edgar and I have become friends, and it’s been a pleasure to finally collaborate with him in the trenches.
Published under the pen name Richard Bachman in 1982, The Running Man was penned by King. This novel gained significant attention when it was adapted into a movie in 1987. Paul Michael Glaser directed this film production, and Arnold Schwarzenegger graced the cast with his presence.
A release date for The Running Man remake has not yet been announced by Paramount Pictures.
