As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for literature and biographical films, I am thrilled to share my excitement about the upcoming release of “Dance First,” the new biographical film about the legendary playwright Samuel Beckett. Having studied Beckett’s works in college, I have always been fascinated by his unique perspective on life and art.

James Marsh, an Oscar-winning director known for bringing true stories to life on screen, directs Dance First. He previously helmed films like “The Theory of Everything” starring Eddie Redmayne (2014) and the documentary “Man on Wire” (2008). The movie’s script is penned by Neil Forsyth.

What happens in the Dance First trailer?

The trailer gives a glimpse into both Beckett’s past and present experiences, ranging from his early days to his rise to fame. In the upcoming biopic, Gabriel Byrne portrays Beckett, the renowned playwright of the 20th century. Alternatively, the trailer showcases Beckett’s diverse life journey from his youth to his acclaim, while the forthcoming film focuses on various aspects of this journey, with Gabriel Byrne assuming the role of Beckett in the production.

Samuel Beckett, a renowned literary figure (portrayed by Byrne), led a multifaceted existence – a Parisian socialite, a Resistance fighter during World War II, a Nobel Prize laureate, an unfaithful spouse, and a recluse. Regardless of the accolades he received, Beckett was deeply conscious of his own imperfections. Dance First, titled after Beckett’s well-known philosophy ‘Dance first, think later,’ offers a comprehensive portrayal of this 20th-century icon’s life.

Alongside Byrne, the cast of Dance First includes Aidan Gillen known from Game of Thrones, Maxine Peake who appeared in The Theory of Everything, Fionn O’Shea starring in Normal People, and Sandrine Bonnaire famous for Vagabond. The film is produced by Michael Livingstone, Viktória Petrányi, and Tom Thostrup. Paul Ashton, Philip Edgar-Jones, Forsyth, Richard Mansell, Jasmin Morrison, and Julia Stuart serve as executive producers.

The film “Dance First” is set to premiere in New York City at the Angelika Film Center and in Los Angeles at The Laemmle Monica Film Center on August 9. After that, it will be available for viewing digitally starting from August 16.
