As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of hype surrounding new releases, but The Surfer movie, starring the legendary Nicolas Cage, has truly piqued my interest. Having grown up surfing the virtual waves in games like Endless Summer and Ripcurl Pro Surf, I can only imagine the thrill of watching this cinematic masterpiece unfold on the big screen.
Nicas Cage’s latest thriller film, titled “The Surfer,” has been purchased by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions for distribution.
At the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, The Surfer had its first public screening in the Midnight Screenings segment, drawing a six-minute long standing ovation from the audience. This thought-provoking film is helmed by Lorcan Finnegan, an accomplished director with previous works such as Without Name (2016), Vivarium (2019), and Nocebo (2022) under his belt.
Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have secured the rights to distribute “The Surfer” in North America, with a planned release in US cinemas set for the year 2025.
“Lauren Bixby from Lionsgate praised Lorcan’s movie, expressing it as a visually stunning masterpiece with an exceptional use of colors and Nicolas Cage delivering an outstanding performance,” she added, expressing great pride in releasing this film in cinemas.
Eric d’Arbeloff and Howard Cohen of Roadside Attractions expressed their excitement, saying, “We are eagerly looking forward to The Surfer making a splash in theaters next year. Nicola Cage delivers one of his finest acts in this heartwarming story about a father and son’s adventure to discover a legendary surf spot.”
