As a fan of both Sebastian Stan and intriguing character studies, I am absolutely thrilled to see him take on the role of Edward in A Different Man. His transformative performance in this film is not only visually stunning but also promises to deliver a deeply moving exploration of identity, acceptance, and perseverance.
A24 has released the official A Different Man trailer.
In this dark comedy or psychological thriller, Sebastian Stan portrays the character of Edward, an actor living with neurofibromatosis who undergoes a significant medical treatment that dramatically transforms his facial features. Disappointed after being passed over for a role due to his new look, Edward becomes determined to regain what he’s lost.

What Happens in the A Different Man Trailer?
I’m a big fan of the movie “A Different Man” alongside Stan, and let me tell you, the cast is absolutely brilliant! Renate Reinsve, Adam Pearson, C. Mason Wells, Owen Kline, Charlie Korsmo, Patrick Wang, and Michael Shannon each bring unique and captivating performances to the table.
“Edward, an aspiring actor, goes through an extreme makeover surgery at A24, hoping it will open doors for him. However, instead of a career boost, his new look brings only despair as he misses out on the role he was destined for and becomes fixated on regaining what was taken away.”
Stan shared that the process of putting on the prosthetics to portray a character with neurofibromatosis could last up to three hours. He admitted that this lengthy makeup application often left audiences feeling uneasy, which in turn hindered their ability to form a connection with the actor.
Stan shared with IndieWire how he used to take walks down the street and grab a coffee during that time. He felt anxious and needed his friend’s company. As they explored different places, no one suspected Stan was an actor; instead, people genuinely interacted with him.
“A Different Man is my latest project, written and directed by me, Aaron Schimberg. The producers on this one are Christine Vachon, Gabriel Mayers, and Vanessa McDonnell, who previously worked with me on Chained for Life in 2018.”
At the 2024 Sundance Film Festival held in January 2024, “A Different Man” made its debut. Later, during the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival, Stan earned the Silver Bear Award for Best Leading Role as this film was showcased there.
A Different Man arrives in theaters on September 20, 2024.
