As a long-time fan of the Merc with a Mouth, I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige‘s latest update on the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie. Feige’s words confirm what we’ve all been hoping for – that this R-rated adventure will deliver not only the signature humor and action we’ve come to expect from the Deadpool franchise but also a heartfelt story about friendship and family.
Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, discussed the R-rating of the upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine movie as the Marvel Cinematic Universe initiates a fresh phase, allowing for more films with mature themes and gripping narratives. The picture is set to debut in cinemas on July 26, following a production timeline of over six years since Deadpool 2’s premiere.
What did Kevin Feige say about Deadpool & Wolverine?
Before Marvel Studios makes its long-awaited return to San Diego Comic-Con next week, Feige has shared why he repeatedly refers to Deadpool and Wolverine as the “most wholesome R-rated films” – hinting at a heartfelt tale exploring themes of friendship and found family.
Feige explained that although they’re aware of the attention their first R-rated film receives, since it’s the third R-rated Deadpool movie, they remained committed to preserving the previous films’ essence. As Feige added, “Hugh and Ryan have discussed this,” and despite the graphic language and violence, the movie carries a deep emotional resonance.
The speaker went on, expressing his viewpoint that this film, despite its R-rating, stands out as the most heartwarming and wholesome one. It’s a beautiful portrayal of friendship, family, and newfound connections. I may be biased, but I believe the movie’s emotional depth goes beyond the first two Deadpool films, which have gained notoriety for their crude language and adult content. My eagerness comes from anticipating audiences’ discovery of this sweetness once they look past the profanity and R-rating.
The Deadpool & Wolverine movie is led by Shawn Levy as its director, with a script penned by Reynolds, Levy, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. For the third installment, we have Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds reprising his role, along with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Rob Delaney as Peter, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Newcomers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Emma Corrin from The Crown, and Matthew Macfadyen from Succession, will join the cast as Cassandra Nova and TVA agent Paradox, respectively.
