Why Did Huang Zitao Leave K-Pop Group EXO? Explained

As a long-time fan of K-pop and EXO, I have been following Tao’s career with great interest. His journey as an artist has been filled with challenges and setbacks, but he has always managed to bounce back stronger than before.

Former EXO band member Huang Zitao, also known as Tao or Z.Tao, is generating buzz after revealing his romantic connection to ex-trainee at SM Entertainment Xu Yiyang. Following the disclosure, the pair openly acknowledged their relationship and posted a few videos on Douyin.

As a devoted fan of Tao and EXO, I’ve got to admit that his connection with SM Entertainment is far from simple. Just like Kris Wu and Luhan, two other Chinese members of our beloved group, they faced complications in their relationship with the label. They both filed lawsuits against SM Entertainment for alleged mistreatment of the EXO China line, claiming unfair treatment compared to the EXO-K members.

Despite suffering multiple injuries during promotional events in 2015, Tao took a lengthy break from public appearances. He was frequently spotted using a wheelchair. His father fervently wished for Tao to come back to China.

In June 2015, the singer established TAO Studio as his Chinese agency. However, he encountered issues with the company and filed a lawsuit against them in August due to unfair contract terms that limited his freedom. After a long legal dispute, the singer parted ways with SM Entertainment in 2018.

Ex-EXO member Huang Zitao’s career explored

As a gamer, I’d say: Since making my solo debut in 2015 with the digital EP “TAO,” which sold over 600,000 copies in its first week, my musical journey has been nothing short of prosperous. That same year, I ventured into acting for the first time in the film “You Are My Sunshine.” Since then, I’ve landed significant roles in numerous Chinese dramas and films. In 2016, I was honored with the Most Influential Male Singer award. Following that recognition, I released my debut album, titled “The Road.”

In 2018, Tao made an appearance on the hit dance show “Street Dance of China.” Later, he assumed the roles of head producer and MC for the Chinese adaptation of “Produce 101.” This singer has been actively performing in numerous solo concerts and tours, adding to his growing fame. Additionally, Tao boasts a lengthy list of songwriting accomplishments.

Tao is set to return in the upcoming drama Gorgeous Life in the central role.
