Happy's Place will feature Reba McEntire singing (and potentially musical guest stars)

As a huge fan of Reba McEntire, I cannot contain my excitement for her return to network TV comedy with “Happy’s Place.” Over the past few years, she has proven her versatility as an actress through roles on shows like “Big Sky,” “Young Sheldon,” and the Lifetime movie “The Hammer.” Not only that, but she has also been mentoring new talents as a coach on “The Voice.”

Each time I learn something new about “Happy’s Place,” my eagerness grows stronger for Reba McEntire’s comeback in network TV comedy.

Over the last several years, the Queen of Country has graced our television screens with notable roles on “Big Sky,” “Young Sheldon,” and as the star of the Lifetime film “The Hammer” alongside her former co-star Melissa Peterman from “Reba” (now “Happy’s Place). Additionally, she mentors aspiring artists in the industry as a coach on “The Voice.” This marks McEntire’s first significant foray into comedy since the canceled sitcom “Malibu County,” and her return to the genre as a leading actress is a delightful surprise.

When it was announced that she would be taking on the role of Bobbie, a character who discovers she’s inheriting her father’s restaurant and will be sharing ownership with her previously unknown half-sister Isabella (Belissa Escobedo), many viewers pondered if the program would feature a theme song and if McEntire would be the one to perform it. The iconic “I’m a Survivor,” the Reba theme song, has left an indelible mark on television history as one of the greatest and most unforgettable opening tunes for a show. With few theme songs being produced in today’s era, there was anticipation that she would create magic once more.

McEntire admitted to working on the theme song for “Happy’s Place” during the summer TCA press tour. She shared that the lyrics were finalized and recording would take place at the end of the month, expressing her hope that everyone would enjoy it.

As a long-time fan of country music and a devoted viewer of “Gilmore Girls,” I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard Reba McEntire would be joining the revival series in a multi-faceted role. Not only will she be reprising her iconic role as Country Singing Star, but her character, Bobbie, is also set to perform on the show! The tavern’s stage is sure to host some unforgettable musical moments.

The two artists haven’t been confirmed for the show yet, but since there’s a stage in “Happy’s Place,” it seems likely that the program will include musical performances. These acts may be integrated into the episode plot or just close the show with emotional, powerful, or melancholic numbers. Regardless, this addition is sure to enhance the series.

It’s intriguing to ponder if Belissa Escobedo will share some poetry with us. In her teen years, she was a member of the Get Lit spoken word team that graced The Queen Latifah Show and performed at the Hollywood Bowl following a poetry competition victory. Her poem “Somewhere in America” is truly captivating, and given her continued writing, there’s a strong chance we’ll hear her on Happy’s Place as well.
