As a long-time gamer and comic book fan with a soft spot for the Merc with a Mouth and the Wolverine, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard the first reactions to Deadpool & Wolverine hit social media. The prospect of seeing these iconic characters share the screen was already a dream come true, and the positive buzz only amplified my anticipation.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that the initial responses to Deadpool & Wolverine have been phenomenal! The movie is set to release in the US on July 26. Fortunate fans, including Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy, had the privilege of watching the first 35 minutes at a fan event in Shanghai, China, earlier this month. Social media has since been flooded with praises from attendees describing the movie as “hilariously funny” and “ridiculously outrageous.”
First Deadpool & Wolverine reactions praise its opening scene and brutal action
At the Shanghai screening of the film, lasting half an hour, journalists and enthusiasts lauded the opening scene of Deadpool and Wolverine’s intense action. Following the viewing, the event was orchestrated by organizers as a stop on the movie’s international promotional journey.
In her recent post on X (previously known as Twitter), GamesRadar+ journalist Amy West described Deadpool and Wolverine as “intensely violent yet hilarious,” adding, “The opening 35 minutes of #DeadpoolAndWolverine are filled with self-aware jokes. It’s a rollercoaster ride of action and laughter! I’m hoping the rest of the film allows it to fully develop into a movie. Hugely excited to see Hugh Jackman back in his iconic role, and Matthew Macfadyen is stealing the show. Can’t wait for more!”
In a previous article on Digital Spy, Ian Sandwell described the initial action sequence in the film as “violent and shocking.” According to Sandwell, who had watched 35 minutes of the movie, this scene serves as an engaging start with a clever opening joke. For those concerned that Deadpool may have lost his edge, this violent and shocking sequence puts such concerns to rest.
A user named @hzjoe03, who is a fan of X, commented that the new Disney-Fox production feels just like the continuation of “Deadpool 2” in terms of story and tone. They noted that nothing has been scaled back, both the humor and the action were spot on, and they were impressed. The user mentioned that the movie’s trailer didn’t give away much, as most of what was shown in it occurs early in the film.
In an article for IGN, Matt Purslow pointed out that the movie includes a significant scene which fans have eagerly anticipated for many, many years – even decades – as alluded to by Deadpool himself in one of the film’s trailers.
In the UK and China, Deadpool and Wolverine are set to be released on July 25, 2024, with both countries following the US release date.
