As a huge fan of the Mad Max franchise, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation as I hear about Charlize Theron‘s reactions to the recent release of the Furiosa prequel. Having watched Theron bring Imperator Furiosa to life in Mad Max: Fury Road, I was eagerly waiting for her return to the post-apocalyptic world George Miller has created.
Charlize Theron, who won an Oscar, has spoken out about the recent premiere of George Miller’s “Furiosa” prequel, “Mad Max: The Wasteland,” in which Anya Taylor-Joy takes on the younger role that Theron previously played as the older Imperator Furiosa in “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
The film underperformed financially during its time in cinemas, bringing in less than $170 million globally despite an estimated production cost of approximately $168 million. Yet, it continues to receive high praise from critics, boasting a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
What did Charlize Theron say about the Furiosa prequel?
In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Theron shared that she has already seen “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” But when asked if she and Taylor-Joy had talked about the film, Theron revealed they haven’t had a convenient opportunity to connect yet.
Theron expressed her awe, “What a marvel, such a lovely film,” she said. “No, we’ve truly been making an effort to understand one another. It’s been quite the experience – funny, really. We seem to keep crossing paths at inopportune moments when we barely have time for a proper conversation. So, we keep exclaiming, ‘Oh my goodness, let’s meet up!’ only for life to intervene once more. But our time will come when it’s truly right.”
George Miller, the mastermind behind the Mad Max franchise, took the helm as director for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. He collaborated with Nico Lathouris on the screenplay for this film. The impressive cast included Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson, Quaden Bayles, Daniel Webber, and Lachy Hulme. Miller and Doug Mitchell produced the movie.
