As a hardcore gamer and movie enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I have seen my fair share of box office successes and flops. This weekend was no exception as Despicable Me 4 continued its reign at the top, while NEON’s Longlegs surprised everyone with its impressive debut.
As a movie enthusiast and someone who grew up watching animated films, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about the recent box office success of Despicable Me 4. Over the weekend, this beloved franchise continued its reign at the top with an impressive $44.6 million in its second week. The domestic total now stands at a stunning $211.1 million.
As a gamer, I couldn’t help but keep my gaze fixed on NEON’s Longlegs during the recent gaming tournament. This horror feature starring Nicolas Cage managed to secure the second place spot, raking in an impressive $22.6M from 2,510 screens. According to Neon’s press note, “it’s been a hot minute since The Blair Witch Project dropped 25 years ago on this same weekend in July and left us all stunned with its unexpected success in the independent genre.” The Blair Witch Project went on to earn a whopping $140.5M in total after an impressive first week of wide release. To put it into gamer terms, Longlegs had an epic comeback, outperforming and outshining its competitors just like The Blair Witch Project did back in the day. And let me tell you, this is Nicolas Cage’s biggest opening since 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance – talk about a gaming high score!
In other places, Apple Original’s “Fly Me to the Moon,” featuring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, didn’t generate much buzz with only $10 million earned during its opening weekend. This figure wouldn’t be so disappointing if the production cost wasn’t an expensive $100 million. Let’s hope the movie’s C+ CinemaScore helps draw larger audiences in the future.
As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting box office updates! According to Deadline, “Inside Out 2” added an impressive $20.7 million domestically during its latest stint, boosting its US total to a stunning $572.5 million. Globally, this Pixar masterpiece has raked in an astounding $1.35 billion, making it the highest-grossing film in the studio’s history. Moreover, “A Quiet Place 2” continues to captivate audiences, surpassing the $200 million mark worldwide during its third weekend. What a remarkable feat for both movies!
As a longtime fan of the original “Twister” movie from 1996, I’m excited to share my perspective on its upcoming sequel. Having grown up watching Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt navigate treacherous tornadoes, I was initially skeptical about the casting of newcomers Glenn Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones in the leading roles. However, having followed their careers with great interest, I’ve come to appreciate their talent and believe they’ll bring a fresh energy to the franchise.
