The Witness has been soloed in Destiny 2

As a seasoned gamer and Destiny 2 veteran with over a thousand hours under my belt, I’ve faced countless challenges and boss fights that pushed me to my limits. But none have tested my skills quite like BogOnMyDog’s solo clear of The Witness in the Salvation’s Edge raid.

Bungie undoubtedly put a great deal of effort into creating The Witness encounter in Salvation’s Edge raid, intending to challenge teams to their full potential. Managing enemies, manipulating mechanics, and dealing sufficient damage presents a significant hurdle even for experienced raiders. Amazingly, one player, BogOnMyDog, has accomplished the seemingly impossible: soloing The Witness.

Originating from Australia, BogOnMyDog showcases impressive solo performance in The Witness challenge of Salvation’s Edge raid. Witness his mastery of gameplay in the video, where you’ll notice the intricate obstacles he overcomes to interact with mechanics and meet DPS requirements. As a lone player, BogOnMyDog had the Herculean task of matching a six-member team’s damage output within the same time constraint.

At first, BogOnMyDog needed to use the Hunter class for BogOnMyDog. This gave him the ability to wield the Golden Gun Super and Celestial Nighthawk. The benefits of these include enhancing his Super as well as the new Exotic Sniper Rifle, Still Hunt. Next, he employed Apex Predator with Explosive Light to boost the damage inflicted by Orbs of Power.

In some instances while implementing this damage strategy, the quirkiness of Golden Gun comes into play. Occasionally, the Super’s damage output will be greater than anticipated. Although infrequent, Bog mentions that experiencing one extra-large chunk of damage in approximately every twenty Golden Gun shots throughout a solo run is reasonable. Surprisingly, this unexpected power-up occurred exactly at the decisive moment before reaching the final standoff point.

In the final moments, Bog surprised us all by employing an Edge Transit as a last resort. The move came with Bait and Switch, boosting its damage by 30 percent, enabling Bog to inflict sufficient harm within the narrow timeframe before The Witness initiated a wipe.

Prior to reaching the point of inflicting damage on an enemy, various mechanics need to be addressed. These include swiftly maneuvering around the battlefield, targeting and eliminating limbs, and gathering buffs to destroy glyphs. Simultaneously, enemies are herded and their ammo is relocated to designated spots for optimal use during damage phases through the application of the Shoot to Loot ability.

It’s amazing how much time and dedication went into achieving this remarkable feat, estimated at around 150 hours by Bog. During this process, he engaged in brainstorming sessions with viewers on stream to figure out optimal damage sequences. He experimented with various strategies and undoubtedly fine-tuned the art of swiftly switching weapon loadouts to ensure a seamless execution.

As a seasoned Destiny 2 player with countless hours under my belt, I can relate to Bog’s sense of accomplishment. Soloing one of the game’s most challenging boss fights is no small feat. It requires not only skill and knowledge but also patience and determination. So, when Bog mentions that this solo attempt will soon become more achievable due to new mods, I understand his excitement. But for now, he can take pride in the fact that he’s conquered a boss fight that many players have yet to even attempt. The feeling of satisfaction and achievement is one that only comes from pushing yourself to the limit and emerging victorious. Kudos to Bog for his impressive display of skill and perseverance!
