Maharaja ending spoilers

In the final scene, Maharaja is shocked to run into Selvam. The memory of their past encounters flashes through his mind. But the situation quickly turns volatile as they clash. The tension reaches its peak when Maharaja hits Selvam’s leg with a big stone, leaving him unable to move.

At a later point, the Maharaja’s daughter Jyothi makes an appearance at the scene and confronts Selvam regarding his past behavior towards her. In a heartfelt instant, Jyothi scatters jewels before him as she departs. Shockingly, among the jewelry pieces, Selvam discovers a locket – a token he had intended for his daughter prior to imprisonment. Upon recognizing a matching mark on Jyothi’s shoulder, reminiscent of that of his own child, Selvam comes to the profound realization that she is his long-lost daughter.

Tormented by deep regret and shame for his past actions, Selvam’s self-loathing grows stronger. In a heartbreaking twist of events, he plunges from the rooftop, leading to his fatal end.

Who is Lakshmi?

The movie opens with the main character, Maharaja, depicted as a humble barber in the initial scene. Subsequently, we transition to another part where he is purchasing toys for his newborn baby’s enjoyment. Sadly, an unexpected turn of events occurs when a large truck crashes into Maharaja’s house, trapping his wife and child inside. As time passes, the narrative unfolds with Jyothi, Maharaja’s daughter, being introduced in her school setting as an ordinary student academically but exceptionally talented in sports. Despite facing disapproval from most of her teachers, her physical education teacher, Aasifa, remains encouraging and nurturing towards Jyothi.

As the narrative progresses, we learn that Jyothi’s mother has sadly passed away. She resides with her father in their rebuilt home, sharing living quarters with an unusual household member – Lakshmi, a steel dustbin. An unforeseen event, a truck accident, left Jyothi shielded by this very dustbin, leading to its integration into their family as a cherished and vital figure named Lakshmi. Every Friday, the father-daughter duo performs a ritual of bathing Lakshmi and applying vermilion, expressing reverence and appreciation for its life-saving role.

One day, Jyothi goes away for a few days to attend a school sports event. On the very same night, three burglars intrude into their residence, assault Maharaja, and make off with Lakshmi. Wounded and distraught, he rushes to the police station to file a report. At first, the officers find his tale implausible and dismiss him. However, eventually, the inspector appears and listens intently to his account. Yet, when he discovers that Lakshmi is a dustbin, he also rejects Maharaja and sends him away from the station.

Were the Police able to find Lakshmi?

With some conviction, Maharaja agreed to pay the police ₹7 lakh ($8381) upon finding Lakshmi. Driven by avarice, the inspector intensified his search. At first, they contemplated creating a replica dustbin for Maharaja. However, their investigation later unearthed that he was in fact looking for three individuals, one of whom he had already taken the life of.

A startling discovery emerged from further probing: on the very night of the theft, Jyothi came home unexpectedly from her school competition earlier than anticipated. Instead, it was she who had been viciously attacked by the three intruders, leaving her in a near-fatal state before they escaped. It wasn’t long until one of the perpetrators was identified as Police Officer Nallasivam. The Inspector then hatched a plan and successfully coerced Nallasivam into accepting blame for Lakshmi’s stolen goods.

The following day, they visited Maharaja’s residence. At the house, Nallasivam admitted to taking Lakshmi. In an unexpected twist, the inspector presented a weapon to Maharaja, urging him to mete out justice for his wronged daughter. Subsequently, they shared Selvam’s address with him.

Following their heated argument, Maharaja and Selvam clashed in a bitter confrontation. Seeking retribution, Selvam held Maharaja responsible for his past misfortunes – his imprisonment and the loss of his wife and child. After the scuffle, Selvam came to a shocking revelation: Jyothi, the girl he had wronged, was in fact his own daughter. Stricken with shame and remorse, he took his life, leaving behind a tragic and emotional tale.
