Everything to know about Hallmark+, the revamped streaming service coming in September 2024

In this text, there are three different topics discussed. The first topic is about a travel show called “Community Staples” where the host, Brown, will visit communities across the country to highlight their unique holiday celebrations. The second topic is about a movie trilogy called “Groomsmen” and its three leads: B.J. Britt as Pete, Jonathan Bennett as Danny, and Tyler Hynes as Jackson. These movies follow the perspectives of three best friends who find love in various locales around the world. The third topic is about Hallmark’s new programs for their streaming service, Hallmark+. One of these programs is called “Small Town Setup,” a docu-style dating series where parents help their adult children choose potential suitors to move back to their small towns. Another program is called “Home is Where the Heart is,” hosted by Luke Macfarlane, which will help families update and transform their inherited or special homes into beautiful living spaces.

A fresh streaming platform is making its entrance into the scene! Or, better yet, an upgraded one with a new name: Hallmark+. If you’re fond of the greeting card company that has expanded into heartwarming, wholesome media, then get ready to be thrilled. I certainly am. However, prepare yourselves for some significant transformations. In this discussion, I will describe what Hallmark+ is, how it distinguishes itself from other subscription services, and reveal some enticing offerings on the platform. Of course, the topic of affordability – its price point – won’t be left out.

Hallmark+ is a rebranded version of Hallmark Movies Now coming in September

By the onset of autumn, Hallmark Movies Now will undergo a metamorphosis into Hallmark+. This is not an entirely new experience; recall CBS All Access, which eventually evolved into Paramount+, expanding its offerings beyond CBS’ streaming platform to encompass a broader range of Paramount shows.

In its present form, the label “Hallmark Movies Now” may be misleading as Hallmark Channel currently offers more than just movies. For instance, “When Calls the Heart” has been a long-running success with 11 seasons, and “The Way Home” is steadily growing in popularity with each new season. Consequently, to reflect the network’s expanding television lineup, a revision is necessary since they are no longer just a movie network.

It’s important to mention that even though Hallmark+ is replacing Hallmark Movies Now, this does not guarantee that the existing subscribers will continue to pay the same fee.

How much does Hallmark+ cost?

According to Variety’s report, the new service is set to launch with monthly plans beginning at $7.99, which is a $2 hike for current Hallmark Movies Now subscribers who have been paying $5.99 per month. The annual subscription fee will now be $79.99.

As a devoted fan of Hallmark+, I find the subscription model particularly intriguing. It’s not just about paying to gain access to an extensive library of movies and shows; it goes beyond that. For every hour spent binge-watching your favorite content on this platform, you earn points. These points are not mere digital badges but have tangible value – they can be redeemed in Hallmark stores! This unique perk adds another layer of excitement to my subscription, offering me rewards both for my viewing pleasure and real-life benefits.

This is described as an extra perk called a “membership rewards program,” offering members additional benefits such as monthly $5 vouchers for the Hallmark Gold Crown Store, unlimited free eCards, incentives for purchases, and unexpected presents.

In an interview with the press regarding Hallmark+, according to Deadline, Darren Abbott, the Chief Brand Officer, expressed this about the rebrand: “The relationship between streaming and our retail and digital presence is mutually beneficial. We provide content that touches their lives, while they use our rewards to fully enjoy it.”

President and CEO Mike Perry made the comment, “Shoppers behave just like viewers, and vice versa,” indicating that Hallmark intends to capitalize on this connection.

Is Hallmark ending their partnership with Peacock?

It’s natural for Hallmark viewers who don’t subscribe to Hallmark Movies Now to be worried about accessing the network’s content following this announcement. However, there’s no cause for alarm. The shows and movies that currently air on Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Family, and Hallmark Mystery will continue to be available to stream on Peacock. This includes live channels, the option to watch new movies on-demand for a month, and the most recent seasons of network programs. At this point, it’s unclear whether Hallmark+ originals will have a second streaming window on Peacock or if they will air on the linear channels.

What’s on Hallmark+?

Regarding the original content of the streamer for the fall of 2024, we have three series, a competition show, and two unscripted programs on the schedule. Additionally, there are two movie trilogies set to be released. Moving forward to 2025, we can look forward to the premieres of two more unscripted series. Let’s explore each title in detail!

The Chicken Sisters

Eight episodes comprise this series, featuring the performances of Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson, Wendie Malick, Margo Martindale (as narrator), James Kot, Rukiya Bernard, Ektor Rivera, and Jake Foy.

According to K.J. Dell’Antonia’s book with the same title, “The Chicken Sisters” depicts two rival chicken restaurants in Merinac, whose long-standing feud intensifies when a renowned cooking competition, “Kitchen Clash,” arrives in town. The objective is to resolve the decades-old dispute and put an end to the endless bickering between the founding families of Mimi’s and Frannie’s, as well as the rest of the community. Romance and hidden secrets are expected to add excitement and tension to this already contentious competition.

Holidazed

Actors: Dennis Haysbert, Erin Cahill, Holland Roden, Ian Harding, John C. McGinley, Lindy Booth, Loretta Devine, Lucille Soong, Nazeen Contractor, Noemi Gonzalez, Osric Chau, Rachelle Lefevre, Ser’Darius Blain, and Virginia Madsen. (Each named individual is an actor in this production.)

Holidazed is a new holiday-themed TV series produced by Hallmark, focusing on six families residing in the same quiet cul-de-sac. Each family brings unique traditions from their cultural backgrounds and ancestral practices, showcasing a beautiful tapestry of diversity. As they come together to celebrate the joyous season, expect a blend of laughter and heartfelt moments, all while navigating the predictable yet endearing chaos that often accompanies holiday celebrations.

Mistletoe Murders

In the Audible podcast titled “Mistletoe Murders,” the story revolves around Emily Lane (Sarah Drew), who runs a Christmas-themed store named “Under the Mistletoe” in Fletcher’s Grove. During her free time, she teams up with the local detective and his teenage daughter to solve murders within their quaint town. Emily enjoys a blissful existence, yet harbors a concealed past that could potentially disrupt her contented life if exposed.

Finding Mr. Christmas

Hallmark is dipping its toe into the reality competition series pool for the first time with a Christmas-themed production called “Finding Mr. Christmas“. In this show, ten hopeful actors are competing to win the title of “Mr. Christmas” and secure a leading role in an upcoming Hallmark Christmas film set to premiere during the network’s annual Countdown to Christmas event. The competition is overseen by Hallmark veteran Jonathan Bennett, while Melissa Peterman (“Happy’s Place”) serves as the primary judge. Guest judges will make occasional appearances throughout the series.

The production “Finding Mr. Christmas” puts the acting abilities of the competitors to the test, while they will additionally face various trials such as a chaotic Christmas tree dash, a talent exhibition, and other engaging tasks.

Celebrations with Lacey Chabert

Episodes: 10

Lacey Chabert’s show, “Celebrations with Lacey Chabert,” highlights individuals who selflessly contribute to their communities. In appreciation of their exceptional deeds, Chabert collaborates with party organizers, family members, and volunteers to plan surprise parties for these deserving people. These events are meticulously prepared within a tight three-day timeframe and feature various honorees, from children to families and adults.

Ready, Set, Glow!

Episodes: 3

Enthusiasts of ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight” will be charmed by “Ready, Set, Glow!” which, unlike the former, doesn’t feature competition. Wes Brown presides over this program, highlighting stunning, seasonal light displays that have become cherished traditions in communities. By showcasing these areas, Brown aims to share the stories of the creative individuals who spread holiday cheer through their captivating illuminations.

Groomsmen movie trilogy

Cast: B.J. Britt, Jonathan Bennett, and Tyler Hynes

If you’ve ever wondered about the male perspective on “the Big day,” look no further than the Groomsmen film series! This trilogy of movies offers a unique take as it focuses on three best friends who discover love in stunning destinations such as Bulgaria, Greece, and Italy. According to Variety, Pete (played by Britt), is a caring pediatrician with an affinity for organization, Danny (Bennett) is a compassionate baseball coach, and Jackson (Hynes) is a charismatic social media agent known for his impeccable style.

The subtitles for “Groomsmen” offer a glimpse into the romantic themes that will unfold in the trilogy. “First Look” suggests a story of love at first sight, while “Second Chances” may involve two individuals rekindling a past romance, and “Last Dance” could signify someone finding lasting commitment and happiness.

Love on the Danube movie collection

Cast: Sarah Power, Brendan Penny, Dan Jeannotte Jessica Sipos, Nanzeen Contractor, and Wes Brown

The stories for these three movies are yet to be revealed, but they will take place in Europe. Classified as romantic comedies, they promise a delightful blend of laughter and love. Preliminary glimpses suggest that a cruise ship serves as the common element for the “Love on the Danube” series, with scenes featuring castles, horse-drawn carriages, and wine cellar exploration.

Small Town Setup

Release window: 2025

Hallmark is entering the realm of reality dating shows under the description of a documentary-style dating series, titled “Small Town Setup“. In this program, Ashley Williams serves as the host. The unique twist lies in parents attempting to find suitable matches for their grown children, with the ultimate goal being the return of these urban singles to their small hometowns. The entire community participates in the selection process by evaluating and recommending the top three candidates to win over the hearts of the city dwellers.

Among all the Hallmark programs, this is the one that leaves me feeling uncertain. On the surface, it appears to revolve around bringing people together with the goal of allowing one of them to be nearer to their home. While this concept may seem potentially messy, it could also result in heartwarming stories – a hallmark (pun intended) of Hallmark programming. However, I have yet to view the content, so it remains to be seen whether it will deliver the same charm and appeal that we’ve come to expect from Hallmark productions.
