Trezor Unveils New Wallet and Onboarding Help for Newbies

As a seasoned crypto investor with a strong emphasis on security and control over my digital assets, I’m thrilled about Trezor’s latest initiatives aimed at simplifying self-custody for newcomers and enhancing security features for experienced users.

As a crypto investor, I’m always on the lookout for ways to securely manage my digital assets. Trezor, a well-known hardware wallet firm, recognizes this growing need for simple self-custody solutions. To address it, they have introduced an onboarding service and a new wallet, both prioritizing security and user-friendliness. I appreciate their efforts to make the process of taking control of my digital assets more accessible and hassle-free.

Trezor Expert: One-on-one Guidance for Crypto Newcomers

As a analyst, I’ve noticed that while self-custody wallets provide greater control over your assets, they can be more intricate to set up and manage compared to custodial wallets provided by exchanges. However, Trezor Expert is attempting to simplify this process through personalized online sessions. By connecting users with Trezor specialists, these one-on-one guidance sessions offer a clear path to securely setting up your wallet. The $99 service provides an added layer of assurance and ensures that your self-custody journey begins on the right foot.

At the BTC Prague 2024 event, Trezor CEO Matej Zak expressed his admiration for the extensive work that led to the creation of Trezor Expert. It took Trezor more than three years to build the capability to bring this unique offering to life. Regarding the advantages for customers, Zak emphasized:

“They can delve deeper into the security aspects of self-custody by examining topics like private key management and secure online practices.”

Security and Usability Issues Also Addressed with New Wallet

In addition to introducing the Trezor Expert, the company presented a novel hardware wallet named Trezor Safe 5. This innovation showcases advanced security attributes, such as an enhanced EAL 6+ certified secure element chip and a user-friendly interface featuring a color touchscreen and tactile feedback. Furthermore, it is equipped with a robust Gorilla-Glass exterior that shields against scratches and damage.

The Trezor Safe 5 features an enhanced backup method for its recovery seed. Instead of the previous standard single seed, it now requires a 20-word Shamir backup system. This innovative backup system provides multiple segments, or “shares,” of your private key for secure restoration if lost. This advanced multi-share backup represents a significant improvement over the former simple backup process.

Significantly, the Trezor Safe 5 has been added to the expanding roster of Trezor wallets, each designed for distinct user requirements. Ranging from the initial Trezor Model One to the more recent Trezor Model T, Trezor provides a selection of hardware wallets crafted to suit diverse preferences.

The company claims that Trezor Safe 5 is the most superior hardware wallet on the market for managing cryptocurrencies daily. At a preorder price of $169, it is an essential acquisition for individuals who place great importance on both security and ease of use.

Currently, Trezor has broadened its product range by introducing Bitcoin-exclusive editions of the Trezor Model T (Safe 3) and Trezor Model One (Safe 5). These versions cater to a niche market of Bitcoin enthusiasts who prefer using only Bitcoin and discard other cryptocurrencies. Although this feature is currently limited to a select group of users, it has generated positive responses from the Bitcoin purist community. It’s important to clarify that this change is solely related to software, as the security features remain consistent across all wallet models.
