911 season 8 fall finale recap and review: "Wannabes"

As a seasoned gamer and fan of the emergency services drama, I must say that the latest episode of 911 left me with mixed emotions. The fall finale was a rollercoaster ride filled with intrigue, suspense, and a healthy dose of realism.

It’s definitely not easy for the 118 in 911 season 8, episode 8. What went down in the fall finale?

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from 911 season 8, episode 8

The upcoming winter break installment is shaping up to be thrilling as Callum Blue’s character, Brad, tails Bobby. It was clear that trouble was brewing, but the extent of the issues Brad would stir up took us by surprise.

It’s worth mentioning that the series kicked off with an amusing scene at the beginning of the episode. Brad played them an old episode of “Hotshots,” and the 118 team couldn’t help but voice their thoughts. They pointed out that the conversation in the scene seemed unrealistic, something even our show 911, known for its dramatic dialogues, is sometimes guilty of. It’s entertaining to see everyone taking it all in good spirit.

Brad proves himself to be problematic in 911 season 8, episode 8

The first emergency call of the evening corresponds to the one depicted in the advertisement. When a massive pipe burst occurs, the 118 team is dispatched to rescue people stranded in their vehicles. So engrossed were they in saving the woman trapped in a flooding car that they overlooked another victim stuck in her own vehicle.

As a gamer, I stepped up and played the hero, scooping her out of the car just like in those action-packed movies. But after Bobby’s call, he gave me an earful. If that girl had a spinal injury, my hasty rescue could have made it even worse. It turns out, first responder basics dictate waiting for the pros to give the go-ahead before taking action like that.

Performing some manual tasks frees up time for Brad and Eddie to converse. Eddie mentions his wish to secure an autograph for Christopher, prompting Brad to suggest meeting Eddie’s son in person. If only Christopher still resided in the state, that would be ideal. Through this conversation, we discover a bit more about Brad – he has a grown son, but they don’t maintain contact.

It’s clear that Eddie is worried about his life merging with Brad’s. Can he take action to prevent such an outcome? Regrettably, Eddie’s parents are not providing him any information about Christopher’s life at all. They really should do better, but I must admit, I’ve never held Eddie’s mother in high regard.

Brad’s fame often leads to complications during calls. It seems people are more captivated by him than by the first responders performing their duties, which is a reflection of our world today. We prioritize encounters with celebrities and idolize them, yet it’s the unsung heroes – the first responders – who truly deserve our admiration.

Bobby, interestingly enough, leverages Brad’s fame for his own benefit. However, an unexpected turn of events takes place. A fan on the verge of suicide ends up offering Brad words of encouragement to keep him from spiraling into darkness. This incident serves as a poignant reminder that our presence in others’ lives is not random and that we never truly know what others may be experiencing.

In other words, I wasn’t entirely certain about how Brad following Bobby would unfold, but this installment delivered some fantastic scenes and valuable insights to glean.

Athena deals with a YouTuber who tries to do good

Isn’t it really frustrating when people leave shopping carts unattended, taking up parking spots and causing issues during peak shopping hours? Finding a place to park becomes challenging in such situations. Moreover, moving someone else’s cart can delay traffic. While I may feel annoyed, creating a YouTube channel dedicated to shaming these individuals isn’t something I would consider.

In a different scenario, it’s observed that others face similar instances, and this is exactly what Athena encounters in the 8th episode of season 8 in the series 911. Initially, she’s dispatched to handle an assault case, but the boy isn’t involved in such activities. Although Athena shows signs of frustration with the boy, there aren’t many options available to address his situation. Interestingly, she eventually finds herself supporting him wholeheartedly.

Indeed, it’s heart-wrenching to witness such an incident. I stand firm that the youngster did not deserve the brutal treatment he received. It’s important to clarify that he wasn’t truly threatening anyone. If people found it uncomfortable returning their carts on time, perhaps they should have just done so promptly! The real issue wasn’t about the cart return; it was about the unprovoked threats of violence against the innocent child.

One way to rephrase the given text in a more natural and easy-to-understand manner is as follows:

Putting away your shopping cart might seem insignificant, yet it’s one of those little acts of kindness that make a difference. It’s more about personal growth and maintaining order than just the carts themselves.

The ironic twist was that the one who ultimately caused harm to the child wasn’t any of those he publicly reprimanded. Instead, it was the individual responsible for moving carts from their designated spots to the storefront. Making customers return their carts threatened his job security because it removed his purpose within the store. Given this predicament, it seemed assault was a more favorable solution. I suppose he won’t have to worry about unemployment while serving time behind bars, will he?

Will Eddie move back to Texas in 911 season 8?

Recognizing the extent of opportunities slipping away from him both now and in the future, Eddie found himself at a crossroads. He had two options: persist in missing out or relinquish his happiness in LA and return to El Paso. The latter idea began to resonate with him.

We don’t get to know just yet. That’s something for the midseason premiere to potentially answer those answers. Eddie is looking at houses out there, though. It’s going to be a stressful winter break!

911 returns on Thursday, March 6 at 8/7c on ABC. Catch up on the series on Hulu.
